And a dozen or more I've had over the years, all of which have
mercifully faded from memory except for the most egregious one
in Halifax NS, at what was then the fanciest restaurant in town
(name mercifully faded from memory) - it consisted of half a
dozen heavily breaded items originally from tropical waters but
transported many hundreds of miles in a frozen and processed
condition, stewed in lukewarm rancid oil. I can still taste
that heavy grease that was good for nothing more noble than
lubricating a balky axle.

Still, once in a while a good one comes up, good enough for
me to rekindle my faith for a while - a light batter or crumbs,
fresh (I'll even accept high-quality frozen) seafood, hot but
not smoking oil, a big pile of food with not too many French
fries. And then when I try to go back a few months later, the
place is invariably closed. And Phillips Seafood continues to
chug along, swindling customers for centuries to come.

I seriously considered getting a steak. Should have. At
such places, at least the broiler usually works.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.00

      Title: SECOND HARVEST THANKSGIVING PUMPKIN PIE
 Categories: Pies, Desserts
      Yield: 8 servings

  1 1/2 c  Cold half and half or milk
  3 1/2 c  (8 oz) whipped topping
      1 c  Gingersnap cookies
  1 1/2 T  Pumpkin spice pie spice
      1 pk (4 oz) vanilla instant pudding
      1 c  Chopped nuts
    1/2 c  Canned pumpkin
      1 ea Graham cracker pie crust

  Pour half and half or milk into large bowl. Add pie filling mix.
  Beat with wire whisk until well blended. Let stand 5 min. Fold in
  whipped topping and remaining ingredients. Spoon into crust.
  Freeze until firm, about 6 hr. Remove from freezer. Let stand
  10 min to soften before serving.
