=================
Hi Nancy,

RH> Still, whatever way we go, it's a long drive. Some stops are very
RH> brief (5 minutes or less), others take longer but they add up to at
RH> least an hour longer than driving non stop would be.

NB> Yup. Which is why I tend to go non-stop... :) Keeps a long drive
NB> from seeming even longer... ;)

A trip that long needs some break points. We need to get gas, strech our
legs, etc.

RH> with a stopover in MD. We know we're back in the south (on the way
RH> down) when we start spotting Chik-Fil-A on the "food this exit" signs.
 RH> (G)

NB> Regional chains certainly are telling signs... ;)

Yes but they're not so regional any more. They've spread into AZ and, I
think Las Vegas also. Nice (tho sometimes frustrating) thing about them
is that they close Sundays.

RH> did, hit the brakes and we skidded into the intersection, a semi truck
RH> was coming up from right. We stopped, but not before his back tires
RH> bent the front couple of feet of the car to the left. Nobody hurt,
RH> just shaken, thinking about what could have happened. Got a recall

 NB> Scary.

Very much so!

RH> notice on the car a couple of years later after the dangers of rear end
RH> collisions were exposed so we sent back a reply that the car had been
RH> destroyed in a front end collision.

NB> Things could have been worse... ;(

I think the front end was more so as I could see it unfolding.

RH> Anyway, staying with Steve's aunt & uncle while waiting for the water
RH> to recede and a replacement car (Steve's dad drove down a 65 Falcon
RH> for us>), is when I found out how much Steve liked green peas. (G)

 NB> Not a totally lost trip.. (G)

Not in the least. We'd been married 5 days at that point.

 RH> There was one in one of the malls in Tucson that had a good gyro;
RH> Rachel and I stopped in one day on our way home from getting things for
RH> her wedding. Got our meals to go; she got a McD's sort and I got the
RH> gyro. Unwrapping it in the car, the aroma of the onions and garlic were
RH> making her wish she'd gone for it too. I don't remember the name of the
RH> chain or which mall it was in but it was good food.

NB> She may have gone back there for the gyro, next time she was out
 NB> shopping... ;)

I doubt it; it was a 75 mile trip up there so we didn't go too often.

NB> weeks. Too busy RH>> with other things (like cooking for Life Group)
NB> on Saturday to sew. NB>> Keeps you busy, for sure.. :)

RH> Yes, but better busy than bored.

NB> There are some days that I kinda begin to believe that bored could be
NB> a Very Good Thing... at least for a change... ;)

For a little while, but not very long. Last night (and even this
morning) I told Steve that I would be staying off my feet as much as
possible today. Between 3 loads of laundry, popping up for this & that,
I've not been totally successful on that. Still, I've been off, more
than on. which beats the last week or so.

RH> NC style chow-chow today (a green tomato relish); I was able to get
RH> some green tomatoes at the farmer's market on Saturday. We also got
RH> some beets, baby Brussels sprouts, spinach, green peppers and pullet &
RH> duck eggs. Sprouts were roasted, acorn & butternut squash I got a
RH> couple of weeks ago was (pressure) cooked, all put in the freezer.
RH> Beets were also pressure cooked and frozen, spinach will go into a
RH> wilted salad with hot bacon dressing for tomorrow's supper.

NB> Nice haul... and a busy day... :)

Very busy; the spinach didn't make it into a salad yet but it's
definately on the menu for tonight. Tomorrow I will freeze (packing into
seal-a-meal bags) the extra turkey and hopefully get the freezer
reorganized/inventoried at the same time. I've got a pretty much up to
date inventory but a lot has been crossed out, added, crossed out, etc
since I last did it, I want to make a fresh copy. IIRC, the last time I
did it was in April, before I went out to LV for Audrey's birth.

NB> NB>> Likewise. :) Some of my best alternate routes were discovered
NB> NB>> serendipitously while "exploring"... :) "Lost" is only when
NB> time is NB>> of the essence... and things won't resolve... ;)

RH> Our "go exploring" times are usually when we're headed to a place for
RH> the first time. Haven't had as many of them since we got the GPS. (G)

NB> I'm curious enough about strange areas that I'll do some exploring on
NB> purpose, sometimes that leads to some not quite so intended
NB> exploring... generally I've got a good map in the car for
 NB> just-in-case... ;)

Most of our trips we've not taken the time (or had the time) to do
little side trips but I told Stve that I'd like to do some in the
future. We see all these signs on I-85 and 95 for various War Between
the States museums and sites I'd like to check out...............

 RH> (Later)
RH> I also cooked & froze some collards Saturday. Forgot about doing
RH> those. Today I'll make pie crusts (to be filled with pumpkin & baked
RH> tomorrow), a cheese ball and probably some marinaded carrots, all for
RH> our combined dinner with several other church families. I'll also get
 RH> the veggies for a veggie tray to be put together Thursday morning;
RH> think I've got everything I need for a pickles, olives, etc tray to
 RH> assemble Thursday as well.

NB> Sounds like a lovely feast in the making... ;)

It was--if you went away hungry, it was your own fault. (G)
