====================================================================
Hi Hap,

-> HN> Glad to hear he's ok...I had an acute
-> HN> attack of kidney stones..not sure how
-> HN> many but it lasted a week and I was
-> HN> pretty much out of it for most of the

-> OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My sympathies, good to hear you're
-> doing better.

HN> Chirpy as a bird at this point! (grin)

And avoiding high calcium intakes? I had a friend in HI who had to take
calcium but got kidney stones--double whammy. We've upped our fresh
greens intake over the past couple of years; I understand that can
contribute to stones as well.

-> HN> than moan and hurt..Did manage to stay
-> HN> out of the ER and hospital so did not

-> A good thing then. Just rest and lots & lots of liquids to take care of
-> it? ERs are not fun; my FIL checked in at 8:42 pm and finally got a bed
-> around 5 am the next morning. They'd decided to admit him around 0030,
-> knew what ward even, but had to wait that long for a bed. After he was
-> discharged, Mom dropped a perscription for him off at a big box store,
-> was told it might be ready in an hour. About 4 hours later, after some
-> "hard talking", Steve was able to pick it up.

HN> Which was one of the primary reasons I wanted
HN> to stay away from the ER and the hospital. Not

In this case, Dad had no choice but to go. It was for his own good & our
peace of mind.

HN> much you can DO for a kidney stone unless it's
HN> so large or dangerous that you have to go in
HN> after it. If you go to ER they'll pump you

Dad's first room mate was in there for kidney stones--had them "blasted"
into smithereens. The first night he was in, Mom treated us to Sonny's
bbq for supper. Dad was on a liquid diet at that point; he had planned
to go with us. He was moved up to soft foods, discharged to a bland
diet. Now he's back to anything he wants, within reason but to avoid
nuts, seeds and such like.

-> City West where carts are allowed on public streets--she does not care
-> for that and lets us know her opinion. She may be in that situation
-> herself some day tho.

HN> My wife's aunt seldom leaves her "complex" so seldom
HN> needs the car for other than trips outside the
HN> area. The retirement community she is in has
HN> several small busses that take folks on outings
HN> and even to Doctor's appointments and such.

AFAIK, the park Steve's folks are in doesn't have that. A medi-transport
is available thru one of the hospitals tho, and I guess they help each
other out for shopping, etc as needed.

-> We took over payments on a double wide mobile home once; that was the
-> closest to home ownership we've ever been. Sold it before Steve went
-> into the Army. It had a good sized kitchen, probably about comparable to
-> the one in the house here. Used for laundry room, dining room, freezer
-> storage, etc besides cooking. Nice fridge/stove/sink layout tho not the
-> triangle that some designers say is idea. It also had a gas stove; don't
-> have that here but wish we did. (sigh!)

 HN> Next place perhaps.

If I have my way but not if Steve wins out. He says it's a hazard to my
breathing.

-> HN> concern in her life. Heat in the Summer
-> HN> will be a MUCH bigger factor!

-> Too far inland for the fog we got in Monterey/Pacific Grove when we
-> lived there while Steve was at DIL. We missed the heat of the summer
-> tho, not there long enough.

HN> Oh she's gonna get plenty of the heat!!
HN> Too far from SF and the coast for the
HN> fogs but the Sacramento river does cause
HN> some fogs of it's own...lots of rice grown
HN> in that area so LOTS of water.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, have to check out where Lundberg Rice farms are in
relation to Sacramento. We've enjoyed their rice since we were in HI,
especially some of the blends.

-> HN> The two of them are happy and that's
-> HN> as much as I can ask for at this point.
-> HN> She's grown and living her own life and
-> HN> I only give her my opinion WHEN she asks
-> HN> for it..and very little advice when I do.

-> Sounds like us & our girls. (G)

HN> Yep, I figure we raised her to make
HN> good decisions, and she's not let us
HN> down yet...gotta trust that they know
HN> what they are doing. And stand by em when
 HN> they ask for it.

Yes, that's why we say we have 6 grandkids instead of 4.

-> HN> If the military has one thing down
->  HN> pat, it's routines.

-> With a few exceptions, yes, definatly.

Three years ago, as Steve was getting ready to retire, his routine was
anything but so. He had all kinds of this, that & t'other to do but
usually managed to make it home for lunch, as he had the whole time we
were stationed in GA.
