====================================================================
Hi Hap,

-> And avoiding high calcium intakes? I had a friend in HI who had to take
-> calcium but got kidney stones--double whammy. We've upped our fresh
-> greens intake over the past couple of years; I understand that can
-> contribute to stones as well.

 HN> Not particularly avoiding anything right
 HN> now, have a Dr's appt on the 27th and
 HN> will hopefully address the issue at that
 HN> point.

I'm sure it will be. I see my new doctor again on the 24th. She did some
tinkering with my bp meds--get that under better control and then she
will work on the breathing & cholesterol issues. She's pretty sure I've
got non smoking COPD based on listening to my breathing & what
information I gave her last month.

-> HN> Which was one of the primary reasons I wanted
-> HN> to stay away from the ER and the hospital. Not

-> In this case, Dad had no choice but to go. It was for his own good & our
-> peace of mind.

 HN> When you gotta you gotta....

Yes, when he didn't fight it, we knew he wasn't feeling good. Now that
he's doing better (back to normal diet), have to urge then again to drop
the big box store pharmacy for one with better service.

-> HN> much you can DO for a kidney stone unless it's

-> Dad's first room mate was in there for kidney stones--had them "blasted"
-> into smithereens. The first night he was in, Mom treated us to Sonny's
-> bbq for supper. Dad was on a liquid diet at that point; he had planned
-> to go with us. He was moved up to soft foods, discharged to a bland
-> diet. Now he's back to anything he wants, within reason but to avoid
-> nuts, seeds and such like.

 HN> If it's ever determined that I have
 HN> the type that can be blasted I'll be
 HN> right there in line to get it done!!

And we wouldn't be surprised.

-> HN> My wife's aunt seldom leaves her "complex" so seldom
-> HN> needs the car for other than trips outside the

-> AFAIK, the park Steve's folks are in doesn't have that. A medi-transport
-> is available thru one of the hospitals tho, and I guess they help each
-> other out for shopping, etc as needed.

 HN> From what I understand, the retirement
 HN> community where Anne's Aunt lives has
 HN> a shopping area with lots of other stores
 HN> as well...bordering the community. One side
 HN> is full of golf carts and the other side is
 HN> open to "the public"...Grocery, Drugstore,
 HN> starbux, and a couple of restaurants as well.

Nice--that's the kind of community I wouldn't mind living in. Those that
have just a place to live and you go out for everything aren't so good,
especially as you age. Getting out for groceries can be a real pain for
us at times; if we lived in one of those places and Steve couldn't
drive, we'd be hurting. Plus, getting out to eat every so often is a
nice change from the endless cycle of cooking, eating, clean up,
cooking, eating, clean up, etc. (G)

-> -> triangle that some designers say is idea. It also had a gas stove;
 HN> don't
-> -> have that here but wish we did. (sigh!)

->  HN> Next place perhaps.

-> If I have my way but not if Steve wins out. He says it's a hazard to my
-> breathing.

 HN> Well that IS something to consider isn't it!

Not really signifigant according to the pulmonionlogist I had in HI.
Today's gas stoves are cleaner burning, putting fewer emissions into the
air.

-> HN> some fogs of it's own...lots of rice grown
-> HN> in that area so LOTS of water.

-> Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, have to check out where Lundberg Rice farms are in
-> relation to Sacramento. We've enjoyed their rice since we were in HI,
-> especially some of the blends.

 HN> Just checked on google earth, Lundberg
 HN> farms is based in Richvale which is
 HN> about 65-70 miles north of Sacramento.
 HN> They could however be getting rice from
 HN> any number of areas....LOTS of rice
 HN> grown around there!!

They grow a lot of it themselves too. If you've never tried any, do so;
it is good rice.

-> HN> Yep, I figure we raised her to make
-> HN> good decisions, and she's not let us
-> HN> down yet...gotta trust that they know
-> HN> what they are doing. And stand by em when
-> HN> they ask for it.

-> Yes, that's why we say we have 6 grandkids instead of 4.

 HN> Whatever works! I'm just happy that
 HN> we have a great relationship with her,
 HN> I know many parents who don't have a
 HN> decent relationship with their grown
 HN> kids...either because the kids have
 HN> turned out to be idiots, or the parents
 HN> can't seem to understand that they've
