========================
Hi Michael,

RH> If you moved to either the Phoenix or LVNV areas

ML> All this speculation is based on a couple premises only
ML> one of which is true. That I get distressed by dealing
ML> with my brother is true. That I mind being homeless is
 ML> emphatically not true.

Right now your only tie down is your brother. Without him you'ld just
have a small apartment to stay in long enough to gather mail, sort it
and be on your way again?

 ML> , we'd possibly be
RH> able to connect whenever we came to see grandkids.

ML> We can probably connect in some other locale as well.

As we've done so before and will do again. So far, no hints of anybody
interested in hosting a get together over the spring or summer. We don't
have many plans but would like to get together with folks here if all
works out.

ML> The only thing that I could imagine preventing me from eating
ML> pork would be if I found out that the pigs had to be tortured
ML> to make them taste good (which I believe isn't the case).
RH> I should think torturing them would toughen them up.

ML> This is not just a horrible figment of my imagination: in
ML> rural Korea, food dogs are occasionally beaten to death:
ML> check out askakorean.blogspot.com for more details.

For my own peace of mind, I'll leave it unchecked. The thought of it is
bad enough.

 ML> What would turn
RH> me off would be having to do my own slaughtering/gutting out.

ML> I'm not eager to do so and have never had to catch and
ML> kill a piece of food (except seafood, which don't count for
ML> some reason). Gutting, butchering, I've done that, not
 ML> without squeamishness sometimes.

I had to dissect a freshly killed chicken in a biology class while in
high school. Turned me off from chicken for a couple of weeks but when
faced with the "eat it! or else" mantra of my folks, I ate it without
qualms.

RH> Probably not. This place is one of those pleasant surprises; nobody
RH> expects to find prime rib at a restaurant extention to a gas
RH> station/convenience store. Word is getting around about it so
RH> customers now have to get there early on Friday nights to enjoy the
 RH> prime rib.

ML> Oklahoma Joe's is often referred to as the best bbq in Kansas
ML> City. It is in a gas station/convenience store as well. It is
ML> also in Kansas City, KANSAS.

Sounds good; I presume a beef place?

ML> Title: Fondue Vaudoise (Cheese Fondue 'a la Vaudoise') Vaud
RH> Some people think Spell Check implies Sense Check--but it sure
RH> doesn't! Anyway, would you suggest white grape juice or something like
RH> chicken stock as a sub?

ML> As I said, I'm not suggesting you fix this dish.
ML> Unfortunately, omitting alcohol would really change the
ML> flavor of it, to the point that it really would not be
ML> recognizable at all. If you wanted to make melted cheese,
ML> quite distinct from this dish, sure, other liquids would
ML> do most of the job; I would not recommend something sweet
 ML> like grape juice, though.

I've half thought of making fondue a few times (we've had a set off and
on over the years--gifts) but the recipies calling for wine have been
the stopper. I've never been sure of what to sub in for it so, never
made it. Probably something better left for someone else to make--and
clean up after.

 ML> ---------- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

ML> Title: CHOCOLATE FRIED ICE CREAM
 ML> Categories: Desserts
 ML> Yield: 6 servings

ML> 1 qt Vanilla ice cream
 ML> 1 c Vanilla wafer crumbs
 ML> -(about 30 wafers, crushed)
 ML> 1/2 c Finely chopped pecans
 ML> 1/2 c MOUNDS Sweetened Coconut
 ML> -Flakes
 ML> 3 tb HERSHEY'S Cocoa
 ML> 2 Eggs
 ML> Vegetable oil

I'll leave this one for someone else as well. Yes, it has chocolate in
it but it also has coconut.

Catch you later,
Ruth
