====================================================================
Hey Ruth!

-> ->  HN> hot as they make it...which really
-> -> HN> was not that hot but it was good!!
-> -> HN> We even had dessert sticky rice and
-> ->  HN> I had a nice serving of it..and my
-> ->  HN> number this morning was 149..the lowest
-> -> HN> reading of the week...and the most carbs!
->
-> -> My mom had her lowest reading in some weeks after having rice the
night
-> -> before instead of her usual mashed potatoes. Rice must be good for
you.
-> -> (G) I'd rather have brown than white but it's hard to get that at a
lot
-> -> of restaurants; a lot of small eateries will offer it tho.
->
-> HN> I'm often in a quandary about those silly
-> HN> readings. However mashed potatoes seem to
-> HN> spike me pretty well. Most places we eat
->
-> I think they probably spike a lot of people--all those carbs, butter,
-> milk................but with my mom, mashed potatoes are a staple part
-> of her diet. She tends to get high readings but a good bit of that is
-> due to her not following a good diet. We've not been up there since
-> before the floods of last August/September so don't know how she's
-> doing, now that my brother is doing a lot of their grocery shopping.
-> He's trying to get more diabetic friendly goodies, ones that my dad will
-> enjoy as well. We'll be sending them a late Christmas package of some
-> (home) smoked cheeses and multi grain crackers (from Trader Joe's) next
-> week.
->
I try to avoid the taters as much
as I can..and I dearly love 'em! But
I'm trying to keep the blood sugars
under control, last A1C was 6.1 which
pleased the doc quite a bit. Just had
a huge battery of blood work done and
urine samples to check kindey function as
well.

-> HN> offer brown rice as well as plain white..and
->
-> You're more "big city" than we are. (G)
->
And I can be in real wilderness faster than you
too! (grin)

-> HN> a couple even offer red rice. At home we
-> HN> have red rice and brown...no white at all.
->
-> We've got the brown in long & short grain, brown basmati and the rice
-> blend. Also have some wild "rice" and several boxes of various grain
-> mixes put out by Seeds of Change. I used one of them as part of supper
-> last night, may use the left over as part of a loaf of bread.
->
As far as breads go, I have
whole wheat crumpets for tomorrow's
breakfast (poached eggs on toasted
crumpets) and some high fiber english
muffins...and that's it, no crackers
or bread at all. Do have cheerios
though!

-> -> No snow for us to shovel so far this year.
->
-> HN> 3 days of rain and I still have snow in my
->  HN> front yard...but I don't have to shovel
-> HN> it, it's all on the green grass!
->
-> Do you mow year round? I know Steve appreciates the winter break from
-> mowing. Here he usually starts in late March/early April and does the
-> last one of the season in late September/early October.
->
During the winter the grass stays green,
but doesn't grow much..so mowing is
usually mid march to late September.
Our grass (if it did not get regular
watering) turns brown in the dry
summer heat.

-> ->  HN> there are times when I think I'd
-> -> HN> like to be a "snowbird" and have
-> -> HN> a place in AZ or even Sanddy Eggo.
-> -> HN> (as if I could afford either one!)
-> -> HN> But to be honest, most of the time
-> ->  HN> I like it right here!
->
-> -> I'd rather have a less humid place but this is home for now.
->
-> HN> We all do what we gotta do!
->
-> Can't do much other. I've got my first class of the term tonight so
-> trying to do Fido now, got a chicken roasting in the oven and will try
-> to get more sewing (dress for Audrey) in before supper.
->
It's Friday evening
and I took Annie out for
a late lunch/early dinner when
she got home from treatment..only
13 more treatments to go! Less than
three weeks!!

-> -> HN> Then get the Chapel Hill pulmonologist to convince Steve!
-> -> HN> As for the one at Tripler...can you blame him for wanting
-> ->  HN> to stay there??
->
-> -> Nope! We had a rough introduction but got along well after that. I
think
-> -> he liked my sense of humor. (G) He also said I was like a ray of
-> -> sunshine whenever I'd come in for an appointment.
->
->  HN> Attitude m'dear a good attitude
-> HN> will carry you far!
->
-> Better a positive attitude than a negative one. IOW, better a Tigger
-> than an Eeore attitude. (G)

Yep!

-> -> HN> We get it in bulk at the store
-> ->  HN> a wee bit more expensive but Anne's
-> ->  HN> worth it!
->
-> -> As I try to cater to Steve's tastes and he to mine.
->
-> HN> As it should be!
->
-> Steve has an appointment in Raleigh next week; I may go along and do
-> some shopping at Whole Foods Market. He needs peanut butter, likes their
-> grind your own version. Doctor's office is a couple of miles further
-> down the same road, almost too convenient. We'll probably start shopping
-> there a lot more often.
->
There used to be a locally made
Peanut butter (Sunny Jim) that was
really good...but you had to mix
it yourself as it was nothing but
peanuts in it...so it separated and
the top was all the peanut oil!
chat with you soon!
