====================================================================
Hey Ruth!
->
-> -> HN> You do know that Tea inhibits the absorption
-> -> HN> of Iron into your system don't you?
->
-> -> Didn't know that but most of the time I only have a mug of tea in the
-> -> morning. Sometimes a glass of iced tea during the day but not all the
-> -> time and not until it warms up again.
->
-> HN> If you take tea at the same time
-> HN> (within an hour or so) of taking
-> HN> the iron, it will inhibit the
->  HN> absorption of the iron...it's
->  HN> the tannins I think.
->
-> OK, then I should take my iron in the evening. I usually take the
-> majority of the pills in the morning, one at lunch, several at supper
-> and before bedtime. Mostly vitamins but several perscription ones are
-> also in the mix.
->
Only reason we knew is because Anne got
anemic when she was pregnant with Amanda.
Doctor put her on iron pills and told her
to lay off the tea when taking them...She
actually laid off tea for the duration
of the pregnancy....no caffeine at all.

-> ->  HN> Anne likes the sweet potatoes...and they
-> -> HN> have lower carbs than regular.
->
-> -> I rarely eat a whole potato in one sitting so I keep the carbs at a
-> -> decent level. We did farmer style chicken for supper last night
(fried
-> -> potatoes with pepper & onion, left over chicken scraps and a fried
egg
-> -> on top) so I cut up a smallish potato apiece.
->
-> HN> We will indulge in a potato every
-> HN> so often, usually a baker. But we
-> HN> probably don't eat (at home at least)
->  HN> a dozen potatoes a year between
-> HN> the two of us.
->
-> We are definately up in our consumption since leaving HI. But, we still
-> eat a variety of grains & things as well so it's not always rice.
->
we have a little brown rice and red rice
in the house but use them seldom as well.

-> ->  HN> I used to keep a fanny pack and a
-> -> HN> small backpack in the car at all
-> -> HN> times. Fishing line, Butane lighter,
->
-> -> I think we have a first aid kit in the car. Started that in Germany
when
-> -> we were required to have one. Some of your list--not a bad idea for
us
-> -> to add to our supply.
->
-> HN> When I was in Explorers my post
-> HN> was a mountain search and rescue
-> HN> unit, so I got used to having that
-> HN> available all the time. I still have
->  HN> the backpack too!
->
-> We've got several backpacks we can convert. Steve's doctor told him not
-> to use one after he started having back problems (and had bought a
-> decent pack). Now he uses a Zuca (u is umlauted) rolling bag & probably
-> wouldn't go back to a backpack (for books) unless he absolutly had to,
-> for as short a time as possible.
->
Since you're not going out into the
wilderness on hikes, it's not a needed
item. I still go for hikes in the mountains
at times for photography outings..and
it's GOOD to be prepared!

-> -> -> Regular, multi grain or honey nut?
->
-> -> HN> Regular has the lowest carb
-> -> HN> count of the three mentioned.
->
-> Blandest taste too. (G)
->
I don't think so, I prefer it to
the others.

-> -> We look for (and avoid) preservatives, hfcs, and lots of sugar. Most
of
-> -> our cold cereals are the granola or "natural" flake kinds.
->
-> HN> We use Fiber One, no sugar added to that
->  HN> and regular cheerios,no HFCS and only a
-> HN> minute amount of sugar. Most of the granolas
-> HN> have a LOT more carbs and sugar than that.
->
-> I generally grab a mini bagel, whole wheat toast, etc instead of cereal.
-> A rare bowl of cold cereal or, on really cold mornings, oatmeal. We also
-> have eggs & suchlike for breakfast.
->
We have steel cut oats, eggs and such, and
cold cereal with yogurt or milk. I try to
vary the "rotation" but if Anne prefers one
or another she just has to let me know.

-> -> HN> Exactly!!! Why move to AZ in the first
-> -> HN> place if you're going to try to turn
-> -> HN> it into Ohio, or Penn, or wherever you
-> -> HN> came from? Makes no sense to me...but
-> -> HN> like you, if we had a place in AZ it would
-> ->  HN> be native plants only!
->
-> -> It's the way to go. My in laws, when they moved to Florida, had the
-> -> whole palm tree, etc thing for their landscaping. Now my MIL wants
the
-> -> palm trees taken out. (G) Seems like most everybody in their
community
-> -> has at least one citrus tree of some type tho.
->
-> HN> Oh I do like the smell of orange
->  HN> blossoms though!
->
-> In moderation they're OK. Too many at any time and they're too strong.
->
True, visit California during the bloom!
Still for a short while it's very nice!

-> HN> The last series will be the most
-> HN> difficult, as the effects have
->  HN> compounded and she's quite uncomfortable
-> HN> currently. We will both be very
-> HN> happy to see the end of this phase!
->
-> AMEN! Other than tamoxifin, will she have any other treatments? How's
-> the hair regrowth?
->
Not sure, hormone treatment is next which
will be total estrogen suppression I think.
We'll know more when we have the next meeting
with the oncologist on Feb 27. Her hair is
growing back, very short still and very curly
as well. The curls may or may not be
permanent, and the color is grey, but
that too may not be permanent.
chat with you soon!
