I'm averaging $50-$60 restocking the pantry every third week and
around $20 for milk, fruit and vegetables on the other two weeks.

Well if I wasn't using my stockpiled meat (pork from the Grimshaw
butcher shop and wild game from Ray last Dec.), butter (I bought 8
kilos on special just before Christmas) and cheese (I bought 8 kilos
just before Christmas, another special) I would probably be spending
another $20 per week on assorted vegetables oils and nuts. But still
vegetarians don't need to spend as much as omnivores (not that I
want to be one).

Yesterday I took a bag out of the freezer labelled buffalo hamburger
meat, expecting already ground meat and discovered when it was
thawed that it was actually chunks of sinewy meat, gristle and suet.
So I sharpened up a knife and started trimming each piece. I ended
up with 3 nice little steaks and lots of cubed stew meat; then I
rendered the rest of it and wound up with 2 cups of tallow and lots
of crunchy bits. Tomorrow I will be slicing up potatoes and making
bison chips!

      Title: Black Bean-Quinoa Spread
 Categories: Vegetarian, Spreads, Chilies, Beans, Sauces
      Yield: 14 Servings

      2 c  Cooked or canned black beans
    1/4 c  Vegetable broth
      3 ts Canned chipotle peppers in
           -adobo sauce; chopped
    2/3 c  Cooked quinoa
      4 ts Fresh lime juice
    3/4 ts Coarse salt
    1/2 ts Ground cumin
      2 ts Chopped fresh chives

  Serve this as a zesty dip with tortilla chips or crudites. It also
  can be spread on whole-grain bread and topped with sprouts or
  romaine lettuce and tomato slices for a great sandwich.

  In food processor, combine beans, broth and 2 teaspoons chipotle
  peppers and process until smooth.

  Transfer bean mixture to medium bowl. Stir in quinoa, lime juice,
  salt and cumin if desired. Adjust seasoning to taste and add
  remaining 2 teaspoons chipotle if desired. Sprinkle with chives
  and serve.

  Makes 1 3/4 cups
