Ahoy Ruth!
-> -> HN> It's not like I stay in areas that are
-> -> HN> dangerous anymore. And I'd not be out
-> -> HN> roaming the streets at night in any
->
-> -> No fun without someone, especially a special someone to do it with.
BTW,
-> -> the bbq place that's been under construction the past couple of years
is
-> -> doing a give away tonight of ribs, sliders & (forget the 3rd thing).
-> -> We're going up to see what they have to offer; I guess it's a last
-> -> chance to tweak the menu before an official opening. Talked to one
young
->
-> HN> That is it for the most part, I have
-> HN> a great time when Anne is with me (grin).
-> HN> When she's not I seem to lose the desire
-> HN> to get "out and about" as much.
->
-> I understand. I'd feel the same way without Steve if it were a job
-> situation that had me traveling.
There are times when doing things alone
are fine for me. If I'm going on a shoot
or nature trip for photography, I am
focused on that task at hand, and I
don't really notice that I'm not
"getting out" as it were. When I'm with
Anne I'm much more interested in enjoying
the situation. We can really enjoy
walking through a park, an art gallery,
museum, or even an interesting cafe for
tea and coffee.
-> We did go back to the bbq place; they
-> were giving out samples of ribs (dry Memphis type rub), sliders of
-> hickory smoked pulled pork with NC red cole slaw (something new to us)
-> and Buffalo smoked chicken wings, all with shoe string cut fries.
-> Couldn't buy anything but drinks as they'd not had the official health
-> inspection (That was today, smelled like they passed) yet. At the
-> tables, they had a house sauce (thick, tomato based, too sweet) and what
-> they labeled as Lexington style but looked & tasted like a red version
-> of eastern NC pulled pork bbq. That one was good on the fries! We'll
-> probably head back there this week end to try a full menu selection.
-> We're also going to get a take home serving of the ribs there and one at
-> the Carolina Smokehouse Grill (place we found in October & have
-> enjoyed). We think the Fire Pit will win, based on our sample tasting.
-> Steve had a bit of all 3 meats; I just had the rib and slider as I'm not
-> really into wings, smoked or not.
->
Sounds interesting and fun!
-> -> HN> case. A few years back I was in Scottsdale
-> -> HN> for the annual Arabian horse show. I did
-> -> HN> the shoot, and didn't go anywhere else
-> -> HN> at all. I did miss out on some good touristy
->
-> -> I guess there would be some touristy things in Scottsdale; I never
-> -> thought of there being much along that line there. Then too, I lived
in
-> -> AZ for 8 years and never heard anything especially attractive about
-> -> Scottsdale as a tourist location. Probably some good, but pricy
->
-> HN> There are
-> HN> lots of interesting things to see in Scottsdale.
-> HN> Lots of art galleries, interesting restaurants,
->
-> Steve isn't into art as much as I am, especially those artists trying to
-> make a statement. It's more of a "What were they thinking when they did
-> that?" with a lot of the more modern artists. Restaurants--we'd try to
-> find hole in the wall ones that fit our budget & gave us a good meal, no
-> little frou-frous with high prices for a couple of dabs of food.
->
There's art and there's art!(grin)..some
places specialize in sculpture, some in
paintings, and some even in native art.
There are also museums, and other things
to enjoy. As far as restaurants go, we also
enjoy the "hole in the wall" spots, but
if we saw and interesting ethnic restaurant
that we'd never experienced we'd be more
likely to visit there to explore another
new cuisine.
-> HN> and nice little parks with sculptures and interesting
-> HN> plants. Papago park is right at the southern end
->
-> More walking--something the left foot tends to rebel if overdone.
->
You can often rent a cart or scooter.
->
-> HN> of Scottsdale (not sure if it's in Scottsdale
-> HN> or Phoenix) and there are lots of
-> HN> interesting things there as well as
-> HN> the Zoo. There are lots of gorgeous
->
-> The zoo would be fun once Logan gets older. Could take the older kids
-> now; I think they would have fun. We did go to the Phoenix zoo (in the
-> Mesa area) at night a few years ago for their zoo after dark Christmas
-> special. Robert was 4 at the time.
->
If I remember correctly the Phoenix
Zoo is in Papago park, which is sort
of at the convergence of Phoenix, Tempe
Mesa, and Scottsdale. It's hard to tell
when you leave one and enter another!
The park is quite interesting with a
very nice trail that wanders through
it and gives you a lot of chances to
sit in the shade as well as experience
the desert environment.
->
-> HN> golf courses and such as well. As in
->
-> Neither of us plays golf.
->
Tennis, Ping pong? swimming,
shuffleboard..there are LOTS
of choices! (grin)
->
-> HN> any location, Scottsdale is as good
-> HN> a "jumping off point" for other
-> HN> attractions in the area.
->
-> We'd head to San Tan Valley to visit grand kids. There's also an olive
-> grove--www.QueenCreekOliveMill.com (working) right near Deborah but
-> in Queen Creek (Maricopa vs Pinal county); we visited them last year.
-> Didn't get to then, but may some other time, The Pork Shop
-> (www.theporkshopaz.com) There's also Schnef Farms in the same area.
->
Sounds interesting! See? LOTS to
see and do! No matter where you go!
-> -> HN> First chance I've had to watch Baseball
-> -> HN> in a while so I'm enjoying it! Last night's
-> -> HN> game was on as well. We lost to the SF
-> -> HN> Giants 7-5 but it was a good game to watch.
->
-> -> I watched a bit of basketball over at a friend's house yesterday.
Steve
-> -> did all he could to avoid watching any. (G) A couple from church
hosted
-> -> a March Madness get together; 3 ACC teams were in the tournament, now
-> -> down to 2 because Duke lost. Our contributions to the munchies were a
->
-> HN> Have not watched basketball at all...and
-> HN> will continue to do my best to
-> HN> avoid doing any as well. Did watch
-> HN> the Seattle Sounders Soccer team
-> HN> beat Toronto 3 to 1..exciting game!
->
-> We don't watch much in the line of sports on tv. Not sure how much of
-> the Olympics we'll watch this year; I think they're in August. A new
-> shop is having its grand opening this week end featuring the Carolina
-> Rail Hawks--Steve figured out it was probably a sports team but I was
-> able to tell him that they're semi pro soccer.
->
My boss at the ballpark is also a
boss at the football/soccer park
right across the street. In fact
he's a "bigger" boss over there than
at the baseball park. Many of the
baseball park workers also work over
at the football/soccer venue. Me?
Nope, I have no need to subject
myself to spending Sundays at
the football stadium trying to
keep a massive drunken crowd under
some sort of control. NOT INTERESTED!!
-> -> And hopefully as her system gets adjusted to the med, the side
effects
-> -> will disappear.
->
-> HN> That's the plan, she'll start the oral
-> HN> daily pill on Tuesday.
->
-> That's tomorrow, today when you get this message. (G)
->
Yep, I'll have to double check with her and
see if she remembered to start today!
chat with you soon!
