Those whom I have converted away from China-Mart have become somewhat
evangelical about it. I heard my sister in law telling her son's wife "You can
beat Wal-Mart's prices by a wide margin if you look around. And it's easier to
get parking near the door at the Dollar Stores." Family Dollar, Dollar General
and their ilk are giving the marketroids and management at the 800 lb gorilla
company fits ... errrmmmm, cutting into their market share - which is the same
thing. Bv)=

Meijer which is a dual store concept have a store here. The grocery and merch
sides of the business are kept pretty definitely divided. I've not noticed the
service meat, deli, seafood, etc. suffering. About all they share, other than
the roof, is check out lanes.

I am looking for the west-side K-Mart (the "money" side of town) to combine
Sears and a food operation into becoming a "Super K-Mart" or some version of
that. Not this week, but fairly soon. And the shopping maul will lose one more
anchor store.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Seafood Bisque
Categories: Soups, Seafood, Pasta, Vegetables, Wine
      Yield: 4 Serving

      4 ts Olive oil
      2 md Onions; sliced
      1 lb (480 g) tomatoes; chopped
      2 cl Garlic; crushed
      1 ts Black peppercorns
      1 tb Chopped fresh oregano
      1 tb Fresh basil; shredded
      1 tb Chopped fresh parsley
1 1/4 pt (750 ml) chicken or fish
           - stock
      8 tb Tomato puree
      2 oz (60 g) small pasta shells
      8 oz (240 g) assorted cooked
           - seafood; prawns, crab,
           - mussels and/or scallops
      2 tb Dry sherry
      4 ts Single cream
           Salt & fresh black pepper
           Chopped parsley; garnish

Heat the oil in a saucepan. Add the onions and cook gently
for 3 minutes. Add the tomatoes, garlic, peppercorns and
herbs, and cook gently for 10 minutes or until the tomatoes
  are soft.

Add half the stock, bring to a boil and then reduce the
heat, cover and simmer gently for 15 minutes.

Strain the soup through a fine sieve, using the back of a
wooden spoon to 'press' the vegetables. Discard the vegetables
and return the soup to a clean saucepan.

Add the remaining stock, tomato puree and pasta. Bring to a
boil, and then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes, or
until the pasta is al dente.

Stir in the assorted seafood and the dry sherry and heat
through for 5 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Ladle the soup into warm bowls. Swirl a teaspoon of single
cream into each serving. Sprinkle with the chopped parsley and
  serve at once.

Look out for the tiny conchigliette pasta - a smaller version
of the conchigtie (conch shells) or use maruzze (seashell)
pasta shapes in this delicious soup.
