Can you hook up an external monitor?  You could borrow mine, or perhaps
open your files up to file-sharing and access them from my computer.

As Dave Drum said, I don't see DELL (about the only place I look)
selling XP systems anymore.  I've not used Windows 7 much.  Gail has
it on a new laptop she bought, and I don't see much difference --
probably from lack of trying to delve into it.  I've heard of problems
with trying to run DOS programs (e.g. BlueWave) -- but not tested that
out.

As to what to buy next.  Perhaps you ought to consider buying one of the
"business" laptops.  According to a salesman I talked with at Staples a
while back, they are supposed to be hardier than the average laptop.

You could also consider purchasing an "accidental" damage protection
policy:-}}

      Title: Mixed Bean Soup with Cornmeal Dumplings*
 Categories: Beans, Crockpot, Soup
      Yield: 7 Servings
 
      1 cn Black beans; 15 1/2 oz/rinse
      1 cn Kidney beans; 15 1/2 oz/rins
      1 cn Garbanzo beans; 15 1/2 oz/ri
      1 cn Tomatoes; 14 1/2 oz/crushed
      1 md Onion; chopped
      1 pk Frozen mixed vegetables
      4    Cl Garlic; minced
      1 cn Chicken broth; 14 1/2 oz.
    1/4 ts Salt
      1 ts Chili powder
      1 ts Black pepper
      1 tb Parsley; dried
 
  Recipe by: Rival Crock-Pot Book Combine stuff in crock-pot. Cover;
  cook on Low 8 to 10 hours (High: 4 to 5 ho rus]. At end of cooking
  turn crock-pot to High and prepare dumplings as direc ted.
