================
ML> No big deal, you've lived a full life, as have I, and lost
ML> opportunities made way for found ones.
JW> Of course that was just dream stuff; I had no business experience
JW> and no capital back then.

When I was in college I looked at the derelict warehouses
on the Boston waterfront and in Charlestown and said, what
a waste, there's real money in that. Talked to the father of
my then-girlfriend, and he pooh-poohed it, saying nothing
would ever come of it. He was wrong. Not that I would have
been the one to make a go of it, of course, but that vision
was there.

JW> Today if I had the ambition to proceed along those lines, I would be
JW> in touch with the Minor's people. Another fine product, successful
JW> in a small food niche, not available in Canada except by international
 JW> mail order.

International mail order is taking over the world. If
I were to try to make a fortune it would be by trying to
short-circuit the mail-order business, by figuring out
a more efficient transportation network than FedEx.

At one point I thought of having an Oriental Traders type
outfit that specialized in cheap tourist trinkets, so that
people who had forgotten to buy stuff abroad could just
order them in. Postcards, pens, flags, kitchy caricature
dolls, that sort of thing, all authentic of course, made
in the country of origin.

ML> There are more mouse turds now than ever. And they are all
ML> over the house. You cannot avoid stepping on them; I would
ML> estimate about 1 mouse turd per square foot.
...
ML> I started cleaning the kitchen last night, but as soon as
ML> I was about to start my heartbeat became very irregular.
ML> I ignored it and actually cleaned for about 20 minutes,
ML> and then my back started to hurt, so I stopped.
 JW> How very manipulative!

I get angry, and then I say to myself, he got it from his
mother, he doesn't know any better. But he is an amazing
jerk all the same. Take every jerky characteristic of mine
and multiply by 100; then take every nice characteristic
of mine and remove them.

ML> The upshot. I got there and found that though he did not in
ML> fact clean up, there were no turds either.
JW> Thinking of the concurrent thread going with Glen... invisible
JW> turds, the worst kind. [g]

So I was at the house and inquired about the turds, and he took
me to the kitchen, which is an awful mess, and looked and looked
and eventually found something in an unwashed bowl in the sink;
it certainly might have been a turd at one point, but after a
couple weeks food, turd, it all starts to look the same. And
then he went into his room and found a couple in a pile of dirty
clothes and another one that he thought might be one, only he
had stepped on it ten times, so he said, so he couldn't be sure.
And he shows no concern about the intrinsic nastiness of having
mouse shit in the house. I am not making this up.

JW> Roslind has a sister who is a paranoid schizophrenic, who copes
JW> fairly well when on medication, not so well when off it.

The antipsychotic apparently had some effects he doesn't like,
so he's off that; he's just on something for the OCD.

JW> Nothing worked. Then her hard drinking uneducated carpenter brother
JW> got on the phone and said loudly, "You're talking like a crazy
JW> woman. STOP IT!". And she calmed down and was fine for another six
 JW> weeks or so.
JW> There may be some merit to his line of therapy!

I told him to get out of my face, and thereupon he actually
started being a little less obnoxious, though still very
importunate. But his less obnoxiousness was obnoxious in its
own way: he started asking my permission to go to church and
to play the radio. I pointed out that he needn't ask my
permission to do these things. He said he was asking because
I was mad at him.

---------- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.03

      Title: Stuffed Chicken, Cyprus Style
 Categories: Greek, Poultry
   Servings: 6

      1 Roasting chicken
3 tb Vegetable oil or butter
    1/2 c Blanched, slivered almonds
    3/4 c Raw long-grain white rice
    1/2 c Dry white wine
  1 1/4 c -Water
           Salt
      1 ts Ground cinnamon
      1 pn Granulated sugar
    1/2 c Currants
           Melted butter or veg. oil

Wash and dry the chicken, reserving the liver, and set aside. In a medium
saucepan, heat the oil or butter and saute the almonds and liver, then
remove with a slotted spoon. Chop the liver and set aside with the nuts.
Add the rice to the fat in the pan and saute over medium heat, stirring
constantly, then pour in the wine, water, salt, cinnamon, and sugar. Cover
and cook for 12 minutes, or until the rice is almost tender. Stir in the
almonds, liver, and currants and remove the pan from the heat.

Spoon the stuffing into the large cavity of the chicken and close tightly
with skewers. Truss the chicken and brush the surface lightly with melted
butter or oil. Set in a baking pan, breast side up, and bake for 1 1/4
hours, or until tender, in moderate oven (350 F), turning with 2 wodden
spoons every 20 minutes and basting frequently with drippings. Remove the
stuffing from the cavity and transfer to the center of a warm platter.
Carve the chicken and arrange around the stuffing. Serve warm.

Note: For a popular mainland version, substitute pine nuts, nutmeg, and a
little chopped celery and parsley, and soaked bread for the almonds,
  cinnamon, and rice.
