That is sad and is happening so often.

Yes I do know that story line. I know the sense of loss also when
certain landmarks in Your hometown gets lost to so called renewal
projects. One of the saddest things is to see a McDonalds, nothing
against mickey d;s, but it is right smack where I grew up playing little
league baseball. Thats minor, but it is multiplied many times over with
other things, as You say, replacing beautiful old buildings and town
heritages and the loss of businesses to people who made their lives in
those small towns. I grew up in Avon, which has not been built up like
Newark, but since 390 came in all those years ago, and what was a 45
minute drive to Rochester, is now 25, things have changed out there.

I had Family in Olean NY for a long time. That town changed from a
beautiful little College town to be completely overhauled when Walmart
arrived. Changed the whole complexion of the town. So I do understand
exactly what You mean. Not having roots there or a sense of what Newark
was it was impressive to the outsider to see just how much the town had
to offer now. I have one big memory of Newark. I remember my parents
shopped there when I was young and we were riding home from whatever
grocery store they shopped at and the news that President Kennedy had
been shot was on the Radio.

Swedish Meatballs Recipe

    3 pound grnd beef
        2 pound grnd veal
            1 pound grnd pork
                1 1/2 c. lowfat sour cream
                    2 cans cream of mushroom soup
                        Kitchen Bouquet for color

Directions

    Meatball mix. Dash allspice Dash pepper 2 T dehydrated onions 3 T
    instant potatoes 3/4 c. dry bread crumbs 4 large eggs 1 1/3 c. half
    & halfMix all ingredients. Make meatballs. Roll in flour. Place in
    pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour. Reduce heat to 300 degrees and
    add in gravy.


A little pricey for the meat, but very Good! Grows hair on Your Chest!
