=======================
Howdy Ruth!

Baseball team is on the road so I'm
trying to catch up on the echo!

-> -> HN> Oh my gosh, the Tucson area has a huge
-> -> HN> selection of interesting places to eat!
-> -> HN> We always enjoyed exploring the offerings
-> -> HN> when we came to the area!
->
-> -> We never got to the half of them. Our budget was geared to the lower
-> -> priced stuff then; both girls were still home. Still, we could get
good
-> -> strawberry slushies at eegees--and did from time to time. We also hit
-> -> the Yokahama Rice Bowl as a quick/easy way to get an inexpensive
Asian
-> -> type meal. Went back a few years later; they weren't as good as we
-> -> remembered. Part of it was, we'd just moved back to the mainland from
HI
-> -> and had gotten spoiled on good, cheap Asian there. (G)
->
->  HN> I don't mind splurging on a meal out
-> HN> now and then...and sometimes you get
-> HN> what you pay for.
->
-> We had to watch our pennies when eating out so we could afford groceries
-> for the family. For our anniversary we'd usually go to some place nice,
-> but not too pricy. When we were up in Tucson with the girls, we'd try to
-> go for something other than the McD's or other major chain fast food;
-> they liked the rice bowl places too. It was different from the usual
-> fast food but they were familiar enough with easy, quick sort of Asian
-> from some of my cooking.
->
True, When I was first in the Navy
and on my own, one of my aunts told
me to try to go out to a "formal"
restaurant at least once a month.
She said it was important to eat
in a place with cloth napkins and
proper place settings, and it was
important to develop the sense of
being comfortable in those surroundings.
And now, Steve and you do not need
to scrimp as much as you did when
the kids were young.

-> -> HN> It is after all, what I do!
->
-> -> As you'll find me with needle, thread & fabric very nearby.
->
-> HN> Hopefully your wrists will hold out for
->  HN> many years yet!
->
-> I hope they do too; I don't want to have they fused. Haven't yet gotten
-> the referral for the specialist but hopefully soon so I can get them
-> checked out. Started working with a local Quilts of Valor (look them up)
-> group today & was in on their first presentation. As with the other
-> quilting groups I've worked with, the quilts go for a great cause. It's
-> also fun working with a group of ladies who share the love of quilting.
->
It is a good cause!
and it's always fun to get
together with like minded
folks!

-> ->  HN> I do not know if she'd be able to
-> -> HN> do much. She has COPD and is on
-> -> HN> oxygen all the time and is pretty
-> -> HN> frail. Plus her vision is not very
->
-> -> Hard to see your parents aging, isn't it? I know, I've been dealing
with
-> -> it a lot the past few years.
->
-> HN> She's in her mid 80's and is pretty
-> HN> frail, so I'm grateful for whatever
-> HN> she feels like doing.
->
-> I know the feeling; my dad is 90, mom is 83.
->
It simply becomes a matter of how much
they can actually do safely.

-> -> someone else drives. Honestly, tho, I would rather have Steve do the
-> -> driving if we go out with them (and he does, much to my relief).
->
-> HN> Mom knows she's not capable of driving
->  HN> anymore so she's voluntarily stopped
-> HN> and I am happy to know that!!
->
-> As long as others are willingto go shopping with her, take her to the
-> doctor, etc. Does she cook for herself?
->
She still cooks, but not like she used to.

-> -> HN> able to visit 3 museums that way before
-> -> HN> she simply needed to get back to the
-> -> HN> hotel and lay down and rest the back.
->
-> -> As well as other parts of the body. She's still recovering from all
that
-> -> was thrown at her last year so she needs the rest.
->
-> HN> Yep, and we did a lot of that. When
-> HN> her back got "tired" we'd head back
-> HN> to the hotel and rest as long as she
->  HN> needed.
->
-> Going out for an awesome meal or staying in and eating in a cozy
-> place--as long as you were together, the food was not important (as long
-> as you made sure she ate to keep her strength up).
->
We made it a point to find interesting
places to eat.

-> -> HN> We did not rent a car this trip and
-> -> HN> taking cabs has worked out really
->
-> -> What about busses or trolleys?
->
-> HN> We had originally planned on both of those
-> HN> and San Diego has a good system..but when
-> HN> her back is spasming, it's not the time
-> HN> to find a bus stop and wait for a bus then
-> HN> figure out the connections to get back to
-> HN> the hotel...quicker, easier, and much safer
->  HN> to get a cab.
->
-> I hear you there; I remember being out one time in Berlin and being hit
-> with a bad migraine. Had to get back home via public transportation; it
-> was bad. Had Steve get me a Coke & candy bar so the sugar & caffiene
-> would start to take the edge off of it. Now I carry my migraine med with
-> me.
->
No meds ever worked for my
migraines...glad they work
for someone!!
chat with you soon!
