Hardly. Having encountered some of the entrepreneurs who have
founded airlines and read about others, I can tell you right off
that ego boost appears to be the prime mover. Making money is a
smoke screen. These people are, though emotionally needy, not
complete dolts and do realize that profits are few and far between
in the industry. Every major carrier in the US has bankrupted at
least once, except Alaska.

This has not worked too well in the larger markets. For
example, in the case I am most familar with, United's
diversification into the hotel business (Westin, Hilton) and
the car rental business (Hertz) had disastrous results.

Fried Rice (Nasi Goreng)
cat: Indonesian, United Airlines
servings: 6

4 c boiled rice
6 md eggs
4 Tb vegetable oil
1/2 c thin sliced ham
1/2 c shrimp, cooked and shelled
2 Tb soy sauce
2 md onions, sliced thin
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 hot red peppers, sliced thin (optional)
1/4 c chopped celery
1/2 c crisp fried onions (optional)
salt and pepper to taste

Beat the eggs and make 4 very thin omelets, roll, and set
aside for garnish, or make scrambled eggs and set aside.

Fry onion and garlic in 2 Tb vegetable oil for 2 min.
Add the ham, shrimp, chopped celery, soy sauce, salt
and pepper, and rice , then mix together on low heat
for about 10 min until brown. Thinly slice the rolled
omelets to garnish with thin sliced red peppers, and
fried onion flakes or if you have made scrambled eggs
mix this in with the fried rice.
