======================
Hi Michael,

ML> prejudice, but I assure you that for most of the twentieth century,
ML> Sunday has been a performance day, and Monday has been the day
ML> that has been dark (not a "day of rest" nor consecrated in
 RH> That's Boston, and performance.

ML> I always thought of photographers as more performers than

It's a job, believe me! My dad used to do it part time to suppliment
his income from the newspaper. He also did the photo work for the
paper, including all the developing, etc. Lots of work, all told. The
only "performance" part comes in enticing children to smile. (G)

ML> workers. Anyhow, that's New York City more than anyplace else:
ML> it took a while before Boston, Philly, and similar cities were
ML> dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century (or, depending
 ML> on your POV, infected).

NYC has always been a bit ahead of the general public. They didn't have
to deal with the "Banned in Boston" issues of that city. Most people
when they think "city", unless they're near another one like Chicago,
LA, Atlanta, etc probably do think of NYC. I wouldn't say it's good to
be a leader all the time, in everything tho.

ML> I know that when I was growing up,
RH> having a grocery store open on Sunday was pretty much unheard of.

ML> And I didn't encounter a grocery store closed on Sunday until 1965,
ML> when I moved to Texas. The DC area was a bit more secular than that
 ML> before that.

Big city folks. Actually, probably catering to the various religious
groups who celebrated different holy days.

RH> I rather much suspect so. I don't know if you remember the musical
RH> (?) "Stomp" from the late 90s but the creators of it created an
RH> "orchestra" using traffic control cones and other assorted found
 RH> objects.

ML> In fact I saw Stomp with Teri Chesser's daughter back around the
 ML> turn of that millennium.

We had a very enjoyable time. The new show is called "Pandemonium", by
the Lost and Found Orchestra. Some of the "instruments" were rather
ingenious--balloons stretched over lengths of PVC pipe, a metal Murphy
bed, bellows blowing air across water bottles, etc. Probably the most
ingenious was the floating marimba where a young lady stood basically in
one spot with mallets in both hands. Other people would swoop in with
boards; she would hit one and that person would swoop away, only to be
replaced by another one. She started sort of slow but really worked up
to quite a frenzy. Oh, and there was a "section" of 4 saws, played like
violins. The show is going to the DC area next; beyond that I don't
know.

Before going to the show, we went back to the Taj Maha. We'd eaten there
about 6 months ago and wanted to return. We took the buffet this time;
most things were at a medium heat level with one or two really hot and
one mild. It was good; I had anything from goat curry (quite tender) to
butter chicken to chicken curry, plus others I can't remember right off.
We will probably make at least one more trip there while we're in the
area.

RH> I don't have too deep a fat level in the pan as a general rule. Most
RH> of my frying is more akin to sauteeing.
ML> In which case a thinner pan than cast iron should make life easier.
RH> Yes, but nothing cooks like cast iron. I've used my mom's Revere Ware
RH> and would rather have my heavier weight cookware.

ML> Revere Ware lets me control the temperature more while sauteing,
 ML> which I like.

I think it's too light weight, but then, I've had nothing but heavy
weight cookware for all but the first 5 years we were married. Started
with light weight teflon lined aluminum, went to Corningware
Rangetoppers to the Calphalon. Started with 2 cast iron fry pans (Steve
had one as a bachelor; we got one as a gift.) and have added to the cast
iron collection over the years.

ML> Drain the tofu at least 1 hr. Heat oil on medium heat.
ML> Add the tofu and saute 20 min [M asks - 20 sec? 2 min?),

Agreed on the time there. 20 minutes? Oy vay, soyvay! (G)
