Back when I was following the Mudville Nine (St. Louis Cardinals) there was a
super-sub named Jose Oquendo who played shortstop or second base for the most
part. But, he famously played every position on the field quite competently -
including three games in which he pitched in relief - I believe he won one of
the games and saved another. I'm pretty sure of the save as I was listening to
the game and the Jack Buck "Star of the Game" post game interview. And between
'83 when he broke in with the Mets and '95 which was the last of his 10 years
with St. Louis (as a player) he performed every on-field job there was - I
think he finished with around a .260 batting average and, had he been a full
timer at any one position, gold glove fielding stats. Unfortunately for Jose
the Cardinals had an embarrassment of riches at nearly every position - so he
was only a full timer in '90 and '91 (and then at "various" positions). 

He is currently the 3rd base coach for St. Louis.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Pork Cardinal Style
 Categories: Pork, Fruits, Booze, Dairy, Rice
      Yield: 4 servings
 
      9 oz Dried apricots
      2 tb Brandy
        ds Pepper & salt
        ds Thyme
        ds Garlic powder
      2 tb Oil
     18 oz Boneless pork loin
  1 1/2 oz Butter
      6 oz Heavy cream
      8 oz (2 bags) Uncle Ben’s Boil
           - In-Bag rice
           +=OR=+
      8 oz Real long grain rice
 
  The day before, cover the dried apricots with water and
  cook until they are soft. 

  Mix brandy and seasonings with 1 tb oil and brush the meat
  with it on all sides. Let it set for 30 minutes. 

  Cook rice according to directions. 

  Heat the oil and fry the meat in it until it is browned on
  all sides; add salt; take out meat and keep it warm.
  
  Add the apricots with the juice, leftover marinade and the
  butter to the frying fat in the skillet; stir and let cook
  until it is reduced a little.
  
  Add the cream and taste sauce and season more if necessary. 

  Cut meat into slices and serve on rice with the apricots.
