=======================
Hi Michael,

ML> never just to go out. To her final illness, her fantasy
ML> was to take all the money in her account and "when I take
ML> a trip, it's really going to be first class." But she never
 ML> actually did it.
 RH> Sad, so many opportunities

ML> She never took any of them - perhaps it was the trauma
ML> associated with travel (she came to the US just ahead of
ML> the Japanese - the next liner to leave Shanghai got
ML> torpedoed); she had agoraphobia and paranoia and all

Sounds plausible. But you would have thought that something like that
would dissipate over time. I guess not tho.

ML> sorts of things ending in -ia ... I half hoped and half

And never got any help for it so probably just kept spiralling downward.

ML> feared that she would actually do this and spend all her
ML> children's inheritance. Hire a companion and just go
ML> spend a hundred grand or more. Why not? Probably fear,

Possible, but who's to say at this point. You've done quite a bit of
travel; did she like to hear about your trips?

ML> maybe some recognition that my brother needed a bit of
 ML> a cushion.

That may very well be so--she saw herself in his issues and so wanted to
shield him somewhat. Does your brother travel much or does he stay
pretty much in the DC area? My older brother finally did some travel
last year. He used to live in NY (Albany) but moved to Florida after
retiring 5 years ago. Pretty much stayed there but last fall drove out
to AZ when our nephew got married, then continued on to California. From
what my parents said tho, he was less than impressed with the southwest
and CA so will probably not go out there again. One sister has moved
from NY to WVA (for school), then settled in PA for a few years, IL for
a few more and then to AZ. Other than that, she's not traveled. Second
sister hasn't traveled at all (finances) but my younger brother has done
some; he's made it out to New Mexico. Steve and I have done the most
travel of any of our siblings, partly due to his time in the army but
we enjoyed side trips there and other trips as we've had the time/money.

RH> sister's protests of "what if something will happen?"

ML> I just hate that. One of the things I admire about Lilli is
ML> her refusal to let that kind of negativity get in her way.
ML> So we've been together to Cambodia and Turkey as well as
ML> the more civilized major destinations in this world, and
ML> she's notched some other interesting ones on her own -
ML> Bolivia, and so on. Her son Michael accompanies her on some
ML> trips as well - I get to be #2 son Michael I guess.

It's been interesting reading of the different places too. We've talked
about how it would be interesting to trace the Apostle Paul's travels
some time but probably as a guided trip (as the one to Israel was). We'd
also like to get back to Germany & see more of Europe.

RH> Couple of years ago we visited Hershey Park and I picked up a good
RH> sized Hershey's cook book there. That, a mini cocoa mug and lunch were
RH> all we bought. Took the well sanitized tour

ML> Altogether too sanitized, if you ask me. I found it pretty
ML> condescending and irritating and in general not worth it.

No, but Steve had talked about going as a kid and I wanted to go, so we
did. We toured the Gettysburg battlegrounds a few years ago, much more
thouroughly than the quick stop I made with my folks when I was a kid.
One of these days we might get to Carlsbad Caverns, Williamsburg and
some other interesting sights.

RH> and then headed down to Columbia, MD.

 ML> Why on earth? ;)

To have an enjoyable visit with friends, stock up on "exotic" groceries
and such like. There's a little Indian store near Dale & Gail that we've
visited a couple of times, also a Hispanic grocery store and a David's
natural foods that stocks some things that Whole Foods Market doesn't.

 ML> Happy graduation.

Thanks; it feels good to be done. We celebrated by going out to lunch
and both had a roasted beet & citrus on greens salad. Steve got his with
chicken breast tenders which he said were somewhat overcooked. I asked
for shirmp on mine; some were just barely overcooked, some just a bit
more so but not quite to the rubber stage. The cannoli with apricot
cream filling and caramel drizzle dessert was good tho.

ML> Title: Cinda (And Whoever Else's) Peanut Butter Cookies
 ML> Categories: Cookies, Nuts
 ML> Yield: 1 batch

 ML> 1 c Peanut butter
 ML> 1 c White or (firmly packed)
 ML> Brown sugar
 ML> 1 Egg
 ML> 1 Bag Hershey's kisses, opt'l

ML> (the brown sugar version is best, IMHO)

ML> Since you like peanut butter and chocolate, here's one for you that
ML> shouldn't challenge your abilities too much. The original recipe

I'd make this for Steve but just enjoy any left over chocolate. He's the
peanut (and almond) butter eater around here which reminds me--I need to
check his supply before I go grocery shopping tomorrow.
