========================
Howdy Michael!

-> HN> When they first signed him I thought
-> HN> "match made in hell"...and it looks like
-> HN> I'm gonna be right on the money with this
->  HN> one...Bobby can't manage to keep his mouth
-> HN> shut long enough to find out how to manage
->  HN> the Sox...and the fans can't stand having
-> HN> a Yankee leading the Sox down the primrose
-> HN> path so to speak.
->
-> I think the season is down the tubes, and they
-> should start looking for next season right now.
-> I hear Terry Francona might be available. It
-> would be cool, and even better, make the
-> announcement on 2/14.
->
I'm grumpy...the BoSox beat us
two in a row...Lester and
Beckett both ripped us up...we
only scored one run in 18 innings.
We had our chances, but had no luck
and no good calls from the umps. ;-(

-> -> HN> got Gauguin to show this year, and when you
-> -> HN> factor in the Seattle Asian Art Museum as an
-> -> HN> extension of SAM (which it is) I think we'd stand
->  ->  HN> up respectably against anyone.
->  HN> See...Milwaukee didn't get Gauguin!!
->
-> It gets Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough before you do,
-> though (the only other US museum that gets the exhibition
-> is MFA Houston).
->
Seattle gets it's share of choice
plums...last year we had a Picasso
exhibit that was top notch (if you
like Picasso).

-> -> I was pleased by the Asian museum, but as I'd recently
-> -> been to the MFA Boston, the Freer, and the Palace Museum
->  -> in Taipei, I thought "medium-size potatoes."
-> HN> It is considered one of the most significant
-> HN> collections outside of the Orient (I'm told)
->
-> It does beat Milwaukee by a country mile in this regard -
-> but not the oft-surprising Kansas City, though the displays
-> there are pretty skimpy.
->
I like the Seattle Asian Art Museum, and
it's really in a nice location...and you
can even go looking for Bruce Lee's grave
when you're in Seattle!!

-> HN> and it has a huge amount that is not "on
-> HN> display" (which always makes me mad)
->
-> They just can't do it, physically. What irritates me is
-> that the exhibitions aren't rotated frequently enough;
-> I figure that regular rotations would keep the curators
-> busy and bring more visitors in the door.
->
Yep...I'm right there with you on that!

-> -> You know who has a surprisingly wonderful museum? Kansas
->  -> City. I think it's called Nelson-Atkins, and it has one
-> -> of the top 5 Asian collections in the country - though
-> -> unfortunately only a couple rooms of stuff is on display.
->  HN> There's that beer money again!(grin)
->
-> Beef money, too.
->
And salt mine money too I think?

-> HN> All in all I like our area's museum
->  HN> resources..both Tacoma and Seattle
-> HN> and the U of Washington has a good
-> HN> one as well (the Burke).
->
-> Oh, for sure.
->
-> By the way, I checked on size of collections (not that that
-> is a foolproof metric) and found that someone had done the
-> work for me already -

->
I've been to the Portland Museum several
times and maybe they're hiding another
whole museum somewhere cause the one
I've been to is nice but tis a far cry
from being bigger than the SAM.

-> I couldn't find numbers for the J Paul Getty museum in LA or
-> the Guggenheim in New York. I made 10,000 pieces the cut off.
-> This isn't all inclusive, I probably missed some museums but
-> I will add them if anyone mentions them. This list is a work
->  in progress.
->
I've been to the Guggenheim in NY, but not the
Getty in LA...mostly because I try
to avoid LA.

-> Missing from the list are (in thousands)
-> Currier 12
-> Walters 28
-> Brooklyn 1500
-> Getty - said to be over 1000
-> San Diego doesn't seem to divulge (probably in the 25-50 range)
->
It might be because there are
so many museums in San Diego.
Not sure if they are "interconnected"
or not.

-> and one admits of course that these numbers are sometimes
-> inflated with prints, letters, and photos individually counted.
->
At least we have the same 25K that
Milwaukee has...(grin)

-> It is kind of a coincidence that the two we are talking about,
-> SAM and MAM, are about the same size.
->
Yes Mam, I'll take Sam!
chat with you soon!
