Ärende: Seafood buffet review
=============================
Poseidon Seafood Buffet

We read about this new restaurant a short while ago. We happened to be
in the Glen Burnie area and decided to give it a try. We were not sorry
that we did.

It is basically an upscale Oriental buffet with added features. They
have a number of the standard Chinese buffet items such as General Tso
chicken, sweet and sour chicken, etc. They have five urns of soups --
Maryland crab, clam chowder, wonton, hot & sour, and egg drop. They
claim over 250 items and I believe that could easily be true.

In addition to the typical buffet, they have a sushi bar with at least a
dozen items laid out. Since we are not sushi fans, I only tried a few
items there. For two of them, the seafood on top had mild flavor and
the sticky rice underneath dominated. The other item was some sort of
cooked roll, sliced thin. The outside was crispy with a sweet & soy
flavor.

They also had what I would call a hibachi grill where you picked fresh
meats and they grilled them for you. I did not try that, but it looked
decent.

As promised by their name, the buffet tables had more seafood items than
is typical of an Oriental buffet. I started with a plate of three
oysters on the half shell, cold steamed shrimp, and mussels. All were
quite nice. I also saw (but did not try) steamed crabs, fried crabs
(which looked like half of a hard shell crab dipped in batter and
fried), hot steamed shrimp, and flounder in lemon butter sauce. My wife
had a small piece of fried fish which she said was ok.

For my second plate, I went to the carvery station and had a slice of
their boneless "prime" rib. Since we both like rare meat, this was
especially appealing. The center was red with only the outer cap cooked
to medium. Flavor was good, albeit the meat was a little bit tough.
From the same place, I had a small sample of pork ribs, which were tasty
and only slightly sauced -- the way I like them. My wife took a slice
of their ham -- also good. Neither of us tried their smoked sausage
from there.

I had a third plate with samples of various dishes from the buffet
tables. Most were pretty good, albeit typical fare. The crawfish were
fairly hot spiced, but tasted good. I took a small sample of their crab
cake -- it was not a good example of Maryland crab cake because of the
amount of stuffing mix added. The same stuffing mix was on top of their
stuffed salmon and pretty much dominated any salmon taste. Neither of
those two items were a winner for me. The ragoons were stuffed with a
cream cheese mixture and were nicely crisp and tasty. They had egg
rolls, but I did not try them.

There was a pretty decent salad bar, with real blue cheese for dressing.
The same area had a good fresh fruit selection, including sliced mango,
sliced kiwi, grapes, etc. The pineapple was not fresh, but from a can.

For desserts they had a selection of cakes and pies. Instead of the
typical soft freeze ice cream machine, they had a chest with cups of ice
cream and ice cream bars.

Finally, they offer AYCE crab legs at an extra price of $9.99. We did
not do that, but did see some coming by. If you pay the extra, you get
a wrist band and they bring them out from the back. This night they
also had lobster for $7.99 each (not AYCE). The manager told me that
they were left over from a Mother's Day special -- I presume they were
not cooked on Mother's Day :-}}

Total bill for the two of us, including two fountain drinks and 10%
senior discount was $29. If it were closer to where we lived we would
certainly go back from time to time. I doubt that we would make the 30
to 60 minute drive very often just to go there.
