Please don't imagine your ancient experiences still hold!
Lines at certain establishments start as early as 10 am and
continue past nightfall; the wait at one of the Makansutra
favorites can be in the half-hour range, which puts a serious
dent into an office slave's lunch time. You are right in that
there are enough eateries to supply the demand, if and only
if you are willing to settle for less than best.

Now $50 will get you a midrange dinner. The Asian stalls, where you
can eat for $3 or 4 or I can eat for $5 or 6 are in fact cheaper
than the Western fast food places, which have a sort of middle-class
cachet about them.

   When you

Or not, as the case may be.

Black chicken is also said to be good for persons with certain
systemic problems, I forget which (the usuals being lung, liver,
and kidney), so you needn't have been too embarrassed. Anyhow,
you probably never have looked very pregnant.

Oh, perhaps 12 oz. I am not sure, as I will defy this as often
as possible if it gets enacted. Day before yesterday at Grand
Central I had a 24 oz beer for $3.

THE ICE BOAT
cat: booze, airline, silly
servings: 1

1 lemon wedge
1 orange wedge    
1 oz Kinmen kaoliang
1 1/2 oz vanilla liqueur
1 oz lemon juice  
2/3 oz honey syrup
1 oz absinthe
1 rosemary stalk

Place the fruit in the bottom of a Boston shaker and
add the kaoliang, vanilla liqueur, lemon juice, and
honey syrup. Muddle. Add ice, and shake to combine.

Strain into a rocks glass over ice. Top with absinthe
and the rosemary stalk. Light the stalk on fire. Serve.

Note: honey syrup is 1/2 honey and 1/2 warm water,
mixed and cooled.
