Ärende: Bbq 1

We seem to be on a BBQ spree the past couple of weeks. Yesterday Michael
came to visit and we decided to try out Klobys. The address says Laurel,
but it is really in the new Maple Lawn subdivision which is perhaps 5-8
miles to the west of downtown Laurel.

We had a mixed reaction.

Gail had a pulled pork sandwich, with french fries on the side. She
pronounced that the pork was quite good -- but that the fries were soggy
and limp. Not the worst fries we have had, but close.

I had a two meat platter. Brisket and ribs. The ribs were dry rub, which
is actually how I like them -- but the menu did not specify that. The
brisket was ok, a bit dry. For sides I had collard greens -- very good,
just a hint of vinegar, plus I ordered BBQ beans. I was expecting
something like Famous Dave's Wilber beans -- but what I got was beans in
a thin chili flavored sauce. NOT BBQ beans at all.

Michael ordered just brisket and asked for it to be extra fatty. What
he got was less than 1/4 fat -- so he asked for a side dish of *just*
fat -- which they gladly supplied. Since he paid the check, I don't know
if they charged him extra for that or not. One of his sides was collard
greens, which he ate (even though he is strictly a meatitarian). His
other side was chili. We exchanged tastes of his chili and my "BBQ"
beans and could hardly tell the difference. His chili was mostly beans,
with a little bit of meat.

One feature of this restaurant is the fact that they have quite a
selection of beers on tap. I'm an occasional beer drinker. The server
seemed to be quite knowledgeable on the different beers. I described to
him what I have liked in the past (Yingling amber ale, Irish red ales,
i.e. medium dark -- no citrus). He recommended a type of red ale that
turned out to be a lot darker than I really like. It was drinkable, but
not something I would order again.

Michael has much more knowledge of beers and wines. He and the server
were exchanging comments on IPAs, American PA, etc. He ordered something
that sounded good to him. After a little bit, he had to pull out his
lactose pills -- seems that the beer had milk product in it, which he
said was not uncommon for British IPA. His next beer was called "Deviant
Dale's IPA".  

Another feature of this restaurant is the companion ice cream shop just
next door -- with an interior connection. Gail and I shared a butter
pecan ice cream. It was as good as we've had, very rich and nice flavor.
Michael finished with a Guinness, and he seemed pleased with that.

Bottom line -- of the three different BBQ houses we've been to in the
past two weeks, I'd rate Klobys as a close third. If we went back, it
would be for their pulled pork. OTOH, I have a pretty good pulled pork
that I just took out of my smoker at home:-}}

Bill for the three of us, with ice cream and four or five beers was just
over $60 plus tip.
