Robbie the brother is currently kind of useless, because
he copes with pain and discomfort by turning away. Annie
thinks that he lacks empathy (Aspergers-like), but his
childhood buddies hypothesize that he may have too much
and be paralyzed by that. The present benefit of Robbie
is that he did have friends growing up, and these are
the people who have rallied around Annie. As most humans
mature socially, the differences tend to minimize, and
though Rob's group is a decade behind chronologically,
aside from himself, everyone seems to have caught up.

It doesn't hurt that Annie and Billy had tons of dinner
parties with Annie or me cooking (both capable of turning
out decent food), or that the beer fridge has a 24-hour
open door policy. Last week there was a crisis - they
were down to a case of Yuengling and assorted oddities
that Annie had got for me; next thing I knew, there were
two more cases of Yuengling and a case each of Kingfisher,
Kirin, and Sapporo in an effort to satisfy my (in her mind)
exotic tastes. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I
like Yuengling at least as much as any of these others,
which despite their exotic monickers are brewed in San
Francisco, L.A., and Guelph, Ontario respectively.

      Title: Lentil Vegetable Soup
 Categories: Soups, Vegetables
      Yield: 8 servings

      3 T  Olive oil                           1 ea Onion; chopped
      1 ea Green bell pepper; chopped          3 ea Cl Garlic; minced
      8 c  Water                               3 cn Tomato sauce; (8 oz cans)
  1 1/2 c  Lentils                             1 c  Brown rice
      1 c  Dry white wine                      3 ea Carrots; sliced
      3 ea Celery; sliced*                     2 ea Potatoes; red, diced
      2 ea Zucchini; sliced                    1 t  Thyme;dried, crumbled
      1 t  Basil; dried, crumbled

      Heat oil in heavy large saucepan over medium-high heat.  Add onions,
  green bepper and garlic and saute until tender, about 5 minutes. Add
  remaining ingredients.  Cover and simmer until ltentils and rice are tender
  and soup is thick, about 1 hour, 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

  M's note: substitute good-quality smoked sausage for the zucchini.
  *I presume this means "ribs celery"
