Thank goodness yes. You can see he's sick, but not how sick.
Quite different from when he appeared to be at death's door
a few months ago.

These folks used to hang out with Robbie; Annie's own generation
seems to have evaporated, and the people who used to drink with
her (generally older than she) have largely died off. The current
and I hope permanent set of friends are more my age or a little
younger.

We had another derecho, and for some reason Annie's house
was about the only one in town that didn't lose power, so
Mike and Jill called up and said, do you have power, good,
we're coming over for drinks. We had lamb racks supplemented
by leftover ribs and the famed Billy Joel recipe flank steak
that Annie would have thrown out had it not been for me.

We're dancing on eggshells. You'd think that nursing would
bring out the best in her, but in fact she's just going a
little more nuts than usual. I'm taking off for a Boston
stint but will be back in a week to see what's what.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Peking Duck with Chinese Pancakes
 Categories: Poultry, Chinese
      Yield: 4 Servings

      1    Skin from 1 Peking Duck
      6    Leeks
      2    Cucumbers
      2    Carrots
           Parsley
     12    Chinese pancakes

MMMMM---------------------BEAN PASTE MIXTURE--------------------------
      2 T  Oil
      2 oz Bean paste
      2 T  Sugar
    1/2 T  Soy sauce

    Cut duck skin into bite-size pieces. Cut leeks into 2-inch lengths,
  shred both ends of each piece, soak in water for 10 minutes and drain.
  Peel cucumber, halve crosswise and quarter each half. Cut carrots into
  sticks. To make bean paste mixture, heat oil, add remaining
  ingredients and heat over a low fire. Transfer to a serving bowl.
  Arrange duck skin, leek and parsley on a serving platter and serve
  along with cucumber, carrot, pancakes and bean paste mixture.

  Note: This dish is eaten by spreading each pancake with bean paste
  mixture and filling with pieces of duck skin and a stick each of
  carrot, cucumber and leek. The pancakes are then rolled and eaten
  with the fingers.

  [JM: my note: if the count is to come out right, I thing the
  cucumbers and carrots need to be cut in thirds before quartering
  lengthwise!]
