Cancer is like the catbird or cowbird or whatever it is that
lays its eggs in someone else's nest, and the baby hatches
and is very aggressive in feeding and gets all the food and
grows and grows while the legitimate claimants get squiddly
and eventually get pushed out of the nest and eaten.

 My sister did mention

I don't see how that would work anyway. I am thinking that any
good C does owes itself to acidification of the system, and you
might as well be drinking vinegar or red wine instead.

Oh, those darn Asians.

Annie's cats have all been all Birman (aka Sacred Cat of Burma),
until Lola the calico, who is half that and half Turkish Van.

Birman is quite a different breed from Burmese. I have got only
a few scratches from Birmans, but have received over the years
scratches, bites, and pee in your beds from Burmese.

Must have had a bit of a scare during his taste of where

And worse. I was on one of the early ones, Mevacor, and
got them (being prone to cramping anyhow). Told the doctor,
who pooh-poohed my report and told me not to be a dick. So I
kept taking them, and a few weeks later, he called (on the
phone!) and said to stop taking them immediately, as the
bulletin (finally) came out about rhabdomyolysis, and I could
be endangering all sorts of things by continuing. I then went
through the whole list of statins, and the ones that worked
for me gave me muscle cramps, and the ones that didn't give
muscle cramps didn't work. So off I went to niacin therapy,
which seemed to go okay but ruined my kidney function, I
think (or liver), so I was pulled off that. So the cardiologist
said, okay, just eat lots of protein and not so many fats and
carbs, which I heard as eat lots of protein and fats and not
so many carbs, so I did that, and my numbers all of a sudden
started getting better.

      Title: U Ponnya's Nwa Mee Hinga (Oxtail and Watercress Soup)
 Categories: Soups, beef, offal, Burmese
      Yield: 4 servings

      1 lb Oxtail, divided into                4 c  Water
           -sections                         1/8 ts Pepper
      2    Cloves garlic, chopped fine       1/2 bn Watercress, divided into
      1 tb Fish sauce (nam pya ye)                  -stems
    1/2 ts Salt

  The combination of oxtail and watercress gives the soup a rather
  unconventional flavor and makes it a fine luncheon dish. It is reputed to
  be nourishing for nursing mothers.  Watercress is specified, as substitute
  for the traditional green known as 'chaste leaf' or 'Indian wild pepper'
  (Vitex trifolia), kyaung- ban in Burmese.

  1.  Broil the oxtail in a gas or electric broiler until well roasted and
  slightly charred, about 15 minutes.  Better still, barbecue over charcoal
  to impart a slightly smoked flavor.

  2.  Put everything except the watercress into a pan, and bring to a boil.
  Cover the pan and cook over moderately low heat for 1 hour or more to
  tenderize the meat until it comes away from the bone.

  3.  Add the watercress, cover the pan, and cook for 3 minutes more.

  Serve hot.
