I'll agree only on the more interesting meterological things... I expect
things to balance out.

My point was more that it could be somewhat coincidental that you arrive
with the storms in question.  During the same period of time, I mananged
to mostly not be near to any of the severe weather, only hearing of it
from others whether directly or from the news reports...  I suspect that
much of the sense of widespread damage has to do with the population
centers getting more of it than usual... as well, that population
centers are increasing, both in size and amount, so that severe weather
is more likely to arrive in populated areas, and do more significant
damage that affects more people.

Sigh.  You are probably right on both guesses...
