That should work.  A lot of water gets wasted by pouring into the sea.

Similarly, by boring a few holes through the Great Dividing Range in
northern Queensland, and damming some of the short, high flow rivers
that at present flow east into the sea, their water could be fed into
the usually dry, ancient river beds of the Barcoo, Diamantina, and
Warburton, and Lake Eyre could be kept topped up.  This would have a
permanent effect on the climate of the surrounding area, enabling
crops to be grown.  This was proposed 70 years ago by Ion Idriess, in
his book "The Great Boomerang".  Modern tunnelling machines can bore
large tunnels quickly and cheaply.

price for your water (if you still have any left).
