Hiya Michael!

-> Where to go for a festive little dinner? We ruled out downtown
-> Seattle, a pain to get to, and decided to Toscano's, which is run
-> by Hap's childhood friend Tom Pantley (echo picnic participants
-> from early this century may remember him). It's out in Puyallup,
-> so we had to fight some Puyallup Fair traffic, but on the other
-> hand Annie, coming in from the other way, had less of it to
-> contend with.

Yes...but she was not smart enough
to order a drink before we got there...
or did she???
 
-> Hap was going to have a glass of wine, and I a couple beers,
-> but I noted that a decent glass was running $10 and up, and
-> one could get the Foris Pinot Noir 09 for $22 a half bottle,
-> so a better wine for slightly less per glass. And then I saw
-> that in a tip-the-hat to bargain hunters, the full bottle
-> was on sale for $29 (running about 20 retail). So that's
-> what we had. A rich, meaty plummy Pinot that went excessively
-> well with rich food. Hap noted that it didn't go well with
-> the bread, which came with olive oil and balsamic dip, but
-> that's hardly a surprise. After a palate cleanse all was
-> well again.

Indeed, it was a very nice pinot!
 
-> Tom came by for a chat before the meal. He looks happy and
-> prosperous, which is good.

He is, and that's good as he's had
his episodes of crap being tossed onto
his life. Good to see good things for him!
 
-> For dinner Hap had gorgonzola ravioli, which were oblong and
-> in red, white, and green pasta, rather cute. He said they were
-> good, which I don't believe, as they were cheesy as anything.

It was and it was! Gogonzola is a
very nice cheese and seems to go quite
well with pasta, so it was a delightful
combination for me...you certainly would
not have enjoyed it with quite as much
gusto!
 
-> Anne and I both had rigatoni with beef in a ragu with cinnamon
-> It was deep-flavored, quite nice if you like cinnamon in your
-> stew, which we do, plus it's good for you. I forgot to ask for
-> a different kind of pasta - I am not superfond of tube pastas,
-> as they tend to trap water, though our servings were nicely
-> drained. The portions were big enough so Anne had a good-size
-> lunch next day.

I tend to relate cinnamon more to 
sweet than savory and it just does
not "seem" right to me when I find
it in surprising circumstances.
 
-> Hap and I passed on dessert, but Anne got the chocolate
-> decadence, which got good reviews.

It's chocolate...with chocolate
and more chocolate...how could
she resist? BTW Scuppers keeps
looking for you...and when he 
can't find you tries to convince
US that we should be giving him
extra treats!
 
-> Afterward at the house, Clemmie's sugar-free dark chocolate
-> ice cream, which was pleasantly chocolaty and almost lacking
-> in that odd dead taste that sugar-free products often have.

It's chocolate...so Annie likes it,
and I quite enjoy it too...now if 
they only had it in butter pecan!
 
-> Also the Biscoffs that we'd picked up at the Metropolitan
-> Market. Hap said they were somewhere between a snickerdoodle
-> and a graham cracker. I have a higher opinion of them than that.

I have a high opinion of both 
snickerdoodles (the first cookie
I learned to make on my own) and 
graham crackers!! The biscoffs were
good!
