If you're any good with the air rifle they won't survive long enough to get
made jumpy by the sound of the window. But, squirrels are pretty ... squirrelly
(bada bing) and jump at the slightest sound anyway. But they are tasty as the
meat in many (formerly) beef or pork dishes. Or added to vegetarian fare.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Spicy 300 Calorie Pasta
 Categories: Pasta, Vegetables, Chilies, Squash, Herbs
      Yield: 1 Serving

      80 g Dried pasta
       1 sm Red onion
     1/2    Red bell pepper
     1/2    Yellow bell pepper
     1/2    Green bell pepper
     1/2 sm Courgette (zucchini)
       4 md Chestnut mushrooms *
       1 tb Olive oil
     300 g  Carton chopped tomatoes
            - w/herbs
       2 tb Parmesan
         sm Handful of basil
       1 ts Dried oregano
       1 ts Hot paprika
            Tabasco Sauce
            Few slices pickled Jalapeño
            Salt & pepper

  * in the U.S., they are known as "Black Poplar" mushrooms.
  One mushroom grower who cultivates this mushroom markets
  it under the brand name "Velvet Pioppini".

  The closest readily available equivalents would be Crimini
  or Portobello mushrooms, although any flavorful brown
  mushroom would probably be an acceptable substitute. - UDD

  Cut all your vegetables into chunks, place into a bowl and
  add the olive oil.

  Heat your griddle pan up so its nice and hot then place
  your vegetables (apart from the Jalapeño) on, turn
  frequently so they don’t char too much.

  Place your pasta in a pan of salted boiling water and cook
  until al dente.

  Drain the pasta in a sieve and set aside.

  Add the chopped tomatoes to the empty pan, warm through
  for 2 minutes, add as much Tabasco as you can handle along
  with the oregano, basil and paprika.

  Tip the pasta and the vegetables into the tomato, stir
  well.

  Taste and season.

  Serve topped with Parmesan, Jalapeño slices and black
  pepper.

  I used purple basil when making this last time and it
  added a really funky colour to the pasta.

  If you want to add a bit of meat (and a few extra
  calories) it works really well with thick cut smoked
  bacon, spicy sausages, chicken and even thin strips of
  rare steak. (or squirrel - UDD)
