I, and many others besides Greg (Steam) Mayman are convinced that the
railways will become increasingly popular in the future.  China is
building more and more high speed inter-city trains, which are point
to point comparable with aircraft, using only a fraction of the fuel.
To go from the centre of London (Waterloo station) to Paris (Gare du
Nord) takes 2 1/2 hours, which faster than the plane, when one takes
into account ground transport to and from airports, and waiting times.

The miner that is using trains in the north of WA is planning to have
40 of its 2 km long ore trains remotely controlled.  They operate over
some 6000 km (I think) of line linking several mines to the port, from
where the stuff is shipped to China.  While China remains prosperous,
so does Australia.  These days 90% of its manufactured goods are
consumed domestically by the increasingly wealthy population.  Tourism
from China is increasing exponentially, so some of that wealth comes
our way.  I suppose you lot are getting some of them?

      Title: CHINESE HAM - HAMON
 Categories: Mains, Ham, Filipino, Asia-se
      Yield: 8 servings
 
  1 1/2 kg Chinese ham; cured
      4 c  Pineapple juice
      2 c  Sugar- brown; packed
    175 g  Pineapple rings
 
  Place the ham & 3c pineapple juice in a stockpot. Bring to the boil,
  cover, & lower the heat. Simmer for 75 minutes, or about 25 minutes
  per 500g. Remove from the juice. When cool enough to handle, trim the
  excess fat.
  
  Preheat the oven to 350^F. Combine the remaining cuo of pineapple
  juice with the brown sugar. Place the ham in a roasting pan, & glaze
  it with the sugar-juice mixture. Bake for 30 or 40 minutes, or till
  the glazed ham is golden brown. Garnish with pineapple rings.
  
  Leftovers freeze well.
