Hi Janis,

>> for the vegetarian dishes there. There are so good. I'll look and
>> see if this one in Ithaca mentions any goaty dishes though (g).

JK> > Wouldn't be surprised to find it in Ithaca, seems like a rather
JK> > ecclectic town with the school there.

JK> Yes, it is eclectic at that (grin).. I tell people when I shop there
JK> it's like going back to the late 60's.. great clothes, etc. and food.

Sounds like it would be a fun place to explore. There's a vintage shop
right near the Mediterrainian Deli in Chapel Hill; we've never stopped
in but seen things like lunch boxes in the window. Wednesday they had
the door open and several Christmas sweaters hanging on it. Looking
inside, I could see lots more. We went on and got our lunch, came by it
again on the way back to the car but didn't stop then either. I wouldn't
have minded stopping but we wanted to get over to Raleigh (Whole Foods)
and home in time for Steve to get some school work done before we went
out for church.

JK> This is a menu from the Mehak-Cuisine in Ithaca (haven't been there
 JK> yet):

 JK> http://mehakcuisine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Mehak-Cuisine-Menu1
 JK> Page_05. jpg

I'll have to take a look.

JK> They include Goat Curry, Goat Vindaloo, Goat Saagwala, Karahi Goat,
JK> and more .. I might look them up :)

I'd go with the curry as first choice. Vindaloo might be too hot and I'm
not sure what the latter 2 dishes are--need to look them up.

JK> > Sounds like a good way to fix it. Lots of garlic but easy on the
JK> > rosemary and healthy pinches of good cheese.

JK> I prefer it with a good flat-leaf parsley but for a change,
JK> easy-on-the-Rosemary leaves is good, agree there.. ;)

We have so much fresh rosemary in the side "flower bed" that we could
supply the town. I see it growing in pots here & there in town as an
ornamental bush.

JK> > Felt good that I did win. But, for that competition, almost anything
JK> > that remotely resembles chili can be entered. Some of them might be
JK> the > family's idea of chili but in reality it is far from anything
 JK> resembling > true chili.

JK> Understand that one, but I always loved church dinners.. so many great
JK> cooks seem to be around.

Very true there. It's your own fault if you go away hungry at most any
of them.

>> tomato paste. Speaking of non-gmo, I was so upset to hear that all
>> the halloween candy sold today is made from gmo products.. Reeses
>> Peanut Butter cups! Nestle Crunch bars! Hersey's Chocolate Bars!!!
>> What a terrible thing :(

JK> > What candy we gave out was Starburst. Also gave out some of the
JK> Aldi's > all natural fruit snacks. But all chocolate for halloween
JK> candy was gmo? > That seems a bit far fetched in one sense, but not
 JK> really, in another.

JK> Eighty percent of all of the 'major' brands, chocolate or not, contain
JK> gmo ingredients.. really really sad. Panda licorice does not...
JK> Annie's gummy snacks or pretzels or cheddar crackers do not, Trader
JK> Joe's organic lolly-pops do not.. We were lucky in that we found some
JK> local organic lolly-pops that at least Eoin could eat (no corn
JK> (smile). My daughter always orders plenty of safe-chocolates and
JK> candies, etc. for her boys which is great that she was able to find a

We don't buy that much candy over all, usually chocolate tho, and
usually the non major American brands. We do have some Halloween, 2011
Milky Way minis in the freezer.

JK> source for them. I don't know whether Aldi's would be or not, haven't
JK> been able to see their ingredients listed, but then I need more coffee
 JK> this morning (vbg).

We like their dark chocolate bars, have some on hand, as well as part of
a Ritter Sport dark with mint creme filling and some Trader Joe's dark
wedges.

>> with one thing that can be bad for you, they get you with another! I
>> am really happy I've been able to garden all these years. Hopefully
>> this spring, I'll be able to continue that here :)

JK> > As long as you have the energy to do so, go for it! We've no idea
JK> where > we'll be when it comes time to put in a garden so doubt we
 JK> will next
JK> > year. Maybe in 2014, who knows?

JK> Yeah, know what you mean there.. and I'm glad I've used container
JK> gardening so that if it comes down to that, I can get in some sweet
JK> potatoes, potatoes and tomatoes for us .. So energy-level has been ok
JK> but that's not trudging around out in the heat - so we'll see.

You've got several months to build up your strength. (G)

>>> Hope you folks had a great Thanksgiving!

>> > We did, separated, but good. Steve was in Guyana; I stayed in Wake
>> > Forest and got a forest's worth of paper cleaned out of the house.

>> God Bless him, that must be a rough time of year to be away. Will he
>> be back soon, or is he there for a while?

JK> > He came back yesterday, would like to go again but school, finances
JK> and > other reasons won't allow it right now. Surprisingly, he said
JK> the team > had no problems clearing customs, rechecking bags and going
 JK> thru
JK> > security at JFK yesterday.

JK> That is so good to hear.

He didn't check any bags but they made him check his carry on going down
to Guyana. The plane wasn't that full and when he reclaimed it, he found
it had been opened and riffled thru. All valuables (computer, etc) and
medications were in his backpack tho.

>>> Pie Crust:

>> > Interesting idea, never would have thought of almond flour. Rice

>> It's light and tastes wonderful. Rice flour tastes fine, but you know
>> it's so grainy.. my daughter says she can't taste that so much but I
>> sure can.. it's so apparent to me.. it's gritty.. (grin) I use
