Ärende: Value
=============
-> -> -> RH> least twice what I paid, preferably more. Book values are
->  ->  ->  RH> only good to sell books.
->
-> -> -> If that. And then the question is, will you sell?
->
-> -> -> RH> Sounds good to me. It's hard to digitize wearable jewelry
->  ->  ->  RH> though.
->
->  ->  -> Who needs wearable jewelry?
->
-> -> RH> Most of the female population.
->
->  -> Why?
->
The mere need to ask means there's no point in explaining. Jewelry is the
visual equivalent of hot sauce; you don't need it to live but it sure does
make bland things more bearable.

-> RH> Precisely. You're male. Totally. Jewelry is good for confidence,
-> RH> self- esteem, and just overall giggles. It's not a need on the
level
of
-> RH> food and shelter, but some place on the level of dark chocolate.
->
-> Jewelry is mostly to impress other women. As in "Look what I (or my ol'
man)
-> can afford."

  My favorite crazy pieces are a mix of worth something and worth nothing.
No one else has to like it. Straight men do notice it though, not just the
gay ones. And men don't buy all that much of it.

->  -> Why?
->
->  RH> What, you don't like girls?
->
-> Of course I like girls. But jools and war paint are not important. I'd
like 'em
-> with nothing on at all.

In fact, I'd guess you'd like them better with nothing on at all, further
than which I will not go.

-> RH> Some lilies like a little gold leaf now and again. Some jewelry
-> RH> qualifies as wearable art. That's especially true for some old
vintage
-> RH> jewelry, including costume. It's valued for its design rather than
-> RH> precious metals, and is collected the same way. A lot of guys
don't
-> RH> get it, but it's not much different from collecting old hood
ornaments.
->
-> A nice smile and a pleasant personality go much further with me (and
most
men I
-> know) that the latest shade of lipstick, plucked eyebrows and mascara.

So? And the connection is?
->
-> I say again - Jewelry is mostly to impress other women. As in "Look what
I (or
-> my ol' man) can afford." And I don't collect hood ornaments. Don't know
anyone
-> who does.
->
Lots of guys do, but almost no women. I'm the only female I've ever met who
snags cool old car parts when she finds them cheap. I buy railroad stuff
too - 99% of railroad collectors are male. Most will of course end up as
presents for the guys mentioned above, unless it lands on Ebay. One of my
male friends got all excited about a mid-1950s road map and an old
advertising card from a garage. Got 'em at a flea market for a whole
dollar.
To me it's just an old map not old enough to be worth much. Men collect
stuff that appears weird to women too.
