Most sites online refer to chicken soup (mostly without garlic) as protective
against colds or flu, without really knowing why as well... I saw mention of
carnosine, etc., but mostly the best they seemed to come up was that it was the
combination of chicken and vegetables that made Chicken soup such a good thing
to eat to hold off colds and flu.

The University of Ottawa did a study in 2005 that studied antiviral properties
of garlic.. and also, in a Rutgers University study that used bacteria in lab
dishes, garlic and two common antibiotics were pitted against certain
antibiotic-resistant strains of S. aureus (a gram-positive bacteria) and E.
coli (a gram-negative bacteria). Garlic was able to significantly increase the
effectiveness of the two antibiotic medications in killing the bacteria.

That could be significant if garlic can be used someday instead of the plethora
of antibiotics in the phamaceutical world, most of which give me allergic
reactions.. bad ones too.

Yes, tea certainly does contain thophylline.. even weak tea helped my daughter
when she was growing up with Asthma.  Luckily she outgrew it when she was
twelve or so, but with Asthma, it an return much later in life.  So far she's
doing fine.

That looks like a great recipe.  Tumeric is something I always like to use
since it's supposed to be helpful for MS and many other diseases, viral and
otherwise.. probably because of the curcumin it contains.

===Tumeric Tea===
1 cup almond or coconut milk
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2-inch slice of ginger root, peeled and finely chopped Dash of cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon honey
cinnamon, cardamom

Heat the milk over low heat until warm.  Place spices in a mug, stir in a small
amount of milk until smooth, then add the rest of the milk. Strain if desired
(though I never do).  Sprinkle with cinnamon and cardamon.
