Supposedly stagers can add a percentage to the sale price
and shorten the time a house has to stay on the market, but
the people who say so have a vested interest in saying so,
and sometime the claims seem more like a flight of fancy.
I wonder if there's been any hard research on the subject,
that is by independent parties.

But they were a dry cold and a dry heat, or that's the word.
That cold came with a breeze; the heat, where it might be
welcome, not so much. I'm back in Washington for a few days
taking care of stuff, and it's been close to freezing with
some wind - when I went out yesterday it was 35 with 17 mph
winds and felt pretty chilly.

And got the benefit of a mostly entertaining companion.
Not much in the way of economies of scale - the sleeping
places we use when we travel together are of a higher order
and higher cost than the ones I'd settle for when winging
it alone; luckily everybody was a good sport in Yellowknife
and we saved a bundle by staying with Jim and Roslind (of
course, for me, that was the prime reason for me going).

I'd recommend spending more time on the other islands than
Oahu - Maui and Kauai are incredibly lovely and not so
built up. There have been specials from New York on airfare,
$500 or so, sometimes even cheaper. Between islands used to
be quite inexpensive, but nowadays expect to drop $100 a
flight, which works out to on the order of a buck a mile.

Somen Salad
cat: airline, Hawaii
yield: 6 servings

1 pk somen noodles, prepared as directed
1 hd lettuce, thinly shredded
char siu or ham, thinly chopped
2 eggs, scrambled then cut in thin strips
1 kamaboko, cut in thin strips
3 stalks green onion, chopped
Sauce
2 Tb sesame seeds
4 Tb sugar
1 1/2 ts salt
1/4 c vegetable oil
6 Tb Japanese vinegar
4 Tb shoyu

In 9-x-13" pan, place prepared noodles to cover bottom of
pan. Top with shredded lettuce and sprinkle meat, eggs,
kamaboko and green onions over lettuce. Refrigerate. Before
serving, shake sauce well and pour over salad. Toss a little
so sauce is well blended in noodles.
