Yes, I had heard they were going to do that. They had done so for the
CAC cards years ago but for the retiree/dependent ID cards, they still
had it. I'm glad they got rid of it too. Despite the original intent of
the SSN not being used as an ID number, the Army did so for many years.
I used to have to have it painted on my duffle bags and other items.
This change was, as you said, long overdue.

No plug-in keyboard. I think we can get along with the on-screen
keyboard. For serious typing, I'll still grab my netbook. It weighs a
bit more, but has better programs for serious work (such as
LibreOffice). Beside that, I haven't yet figured out how to do Fidonet
on a tablet. I am using Dosbox on Linux to run Professional Point along
with Internet Rex for file transfers. I don't know if Android
equivalents exist.

Well, I talked about the trifle I made (and plan to make if we can get
to the picnic. It might be rough as I will be in a hard-shell brace for
six months after surgery according to the doctor. That will mean I'll be
in the brace through the summer and halfway into October. Here's the
recipe for the Angel Food cake:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm)

       Title: Light Angel Food Cake
      Yields: 1 Batch
  Categories: Dessert

    12 x egg whites (large eggs)
   1/4   c cornstarch
 2 1/4   c powdered sugar
   3/4   c whole wheat flour
   1/2   tsp salt
     1   tsp vanilla or almond extract
 1 1/2   tsp cream of tartar


  First mix 1 1/4 cups of the powdered sugar with the wheat flour and
  cornstarch in a small bowl and set aside. Then separate the egg whites
  completely, add salt and cream of tartar to them and whip on high
  speed until the egg whites stand in peaks. Switch mixer to low speed
  and gradually add 1 cup powdered sugar plus flavoring. Stop the mixer
  and sprinkle in 1/3 cup of the flour mixture. Blend lightly
  again, adding the remaining flour mixture. Blend only until mixed.
  Pour into angel food cake pan. Bake on 375 degrees for 30-35 minutes
  or until done.

  First, the baking time is seriously underestimated. It took 40 minutes
  to be done. Per another cookbook, the way to test is to see if the
  cracks are dry and the cake springs back when touched lightly.


  Cooling should be done inverted (use a metal funnel or a bottle to
  hold if the pan does not have built-in supports)
