Just to point out - China(Wal)Mart began life as a Ben Franklin 5 & 10 (nothing
over a dollar) store in Harrison, Arkansas. Target is the re-invention of the
Hudson Department Stores. Kohl's is a department store that doesn't advertise
itself as "discount" but does, in fact, often beat K-Mart, Meijer and ChinaMart
on prices. ShopKo is a department store. And the various "dollar" stores are
beating ChinaMart at their own game

When I mentioned not buying *anything* I was including things (mainly) from
ChinaMart's root business - which is/was as a discounted general merchandise
store. I looked their food department over when they first opened here ..
snickered, gagged at the meat packaging, and left. Never to buy groceries, meat
nor produce from them -- EVER.

ChinaMart only came to the food business lately. And is doing the same things
it did with general merchandise - selling cheap, shoddy product where it can
get away with it claiming they are saving the consumer money. Proving, once
again, that Dr. Goebbels was right.

We also have a Target - at which I do not shop much for reasons I have outlined
here before - nothing to do with their morals or ethics, just with the fact
that their Big Box concept has become too big to be comfortable in which do my
shopping. You have Food Lion, Lowe's and Harris Teeter for stupormarkups. We
have County Market/Cub Foods (Niemann's), Shop & Save and Schnuk's. We also
have some ALDI stores (two with a new one building) and a Sav-A-Lot, Odd Lots
(which has a nice grocery department of overstock items, full of bargains) and
smaller stores like Humphrey's and Country Market (like Humphrey's but on the
other side of town).

Sam Walton was a decent, honourable man, with morals and ethics who did well by
doing good. IOW, a gentleman. It's a genuine shame that his heirs, assigns, and
successors are not in the same mold.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Country Weekly Pork & Plum Sauce
 Categories: Pork, Fruits, Squash, Sauces, Citrus
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      2 sm Nugget or Kent pumpkins; in
           - wedges
      2 md Zucchini; in thick slices
     12    Asparagus spears
     60 g  Butter; chopped (2 tb)
      2 ts Seasoning *
      1 tb Olive oil
      1 ts Fresh garlic; crushed
      1 ts Fresh ginger; grated
      4    Pork schnitzels
    250 g  Plum sauce
 
  * I suppose your favourite seasoning blend. I'd probably
  use Tony Chachere's or Zatarian's. Others might prefer some
  variety of Mrs. Dash or one of the Maggi blends. -- UDD
  
  Arrange the pumpkin around the edge of a large
  microwave-safe pie dish.
  
  Arrange the zucchini next to the pumpkin and fill the centre
  with asparagus spears.
  
  Place pieces of butter over the vegetables and sprinkle with
  seasoning.
  
  Cover with microwave-safe plastic wrap and microwave on high
  for 9 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  
  While vegetables are cooking, heat oil in a heavy-based pan
  and add garlic and ginger, stirring, cook for 30 seconds.
  
  Add pork schnitzels and cook for 4 minutes each side, or
  until golden brown and cooked through.
  
  Pour the plum sauce over the schnitzels and cook for a
  further 5-10 minutes.
  
  Place pork on a serving plate with vegetables, garnish with
  lemon and serve.
  
  Chicken thigh filets could be used instead of pork.
