======================
Hi Ruth,

-> -> OK, this was more years ago than I'd like to think about.

-> RH> I have a few of those stories too. A bronze cat necklace always
-> RH> elicits questions, and I have to admit I bought the thing new...35
-> RH> years ago.(LOL) It was a fundraiser for an African missionary.

-> You must have been a kid! BTW, Steve's rice bag heater is filled & sewn

 RH> I was about ten. Maybe 11. Apparently even as a kid I had good taste.
 RH> At least in jewelry.(LOL)

At that age I never had the funding. A few years later I started baby
sitting and had my own funds from that.

-> shut (double row of stitching, about 4 pounds of rice), waiting for him
-> at home. Surgery went well; I'm up with him in his room right now as he
-> sleeps off the anesthesia.

 RH> Phew! I've been watching for word on that. In the meantime, if he
 RH> can't use the heat pack, you sure can! They're great for warming up a
 RH> cold bed if nothing else.

Don't need to worry about that; he came home this afternoon. Hurting
like anything and moving slower than molasses in January (in Alaska) but
home, none the less.

-> -> his helping hand. Upper ones will mean the step stools. Good thing
-> -> summer's coming on so I won't have to tie shoes. (G) We've arrainged
 RH> for a neighborhood kid to do yard work for us, a big help.

-> RH> Get a second grab stick? I have one here too since step stools are
-> RH> now my enemies. I can usually reach everything, but some stuff all
 RH> the way in the back defeats me.

-> We now have 3 grabbers but there are some things they won't reach or
-> won't be good for. Our kitchen cabinets don't go all the way to the
-> ceiling so we've got things stowed on top of them. We need the step
-> stool there, for safety as much as any other reason, to get them down.

 RH> That makes sense. I've never liked cabinets that don't go all the way
 RH> up. It's impossible to clean up there and if I had them it would be
 RH> Spider Haven.

OTOH, we'd rather have that kind of cabinet so we can stow stuff on top
of them. Don't see too many spiders either.

-> RH> I'm told fried bologna is actually pretty good.

-> Hot, it is better than the cold from the fridge or room temperature on
-> white bread stuff. Add a smear of spicy brown mustard and it's even
-> better.

 RH> It would be; it works on hot dogs. Cheese works better, but mustard
 RH> is good too.

As long as it's not the plastic cheeseoid stuff, tho that does go well
with cheap bologna on white bread. For that, the classic yellow mustard
has to be used tho, not the spicy brown. All American junk food.

-> RH> You could do what I do - log directly into Doc's over a web
 RH> browser.

-> I'm working off of my net book right now; I'm used to it and how it does
-> Fido.

 RH> Good enough. If it works, go with it.

That's my philosophy when it comes to anything technical, computers or
otherwise.

(hot kitchens)
-> I've been in bigger kitchens that have gotten that way. (G) Canning, in
-> the summer, will do it, even with AC. A couple of years ago when we
-> brought tomatoes and peaches back from PA, we did most of the work on
-> the side burner to the gas grill to keep the kitchen cooler. As is,
-> outside temps hit 100 that day.

 RH> Ecch. Not. That's why great-grandma had a stove out in a shed in back
 RH> of her house, and grandma had a stove in the basement. My sister has
 RH> a gas grill too; it's hooked to the natural gas line. They have gas
 RH> heat and a gas stove and a gas fireplace, so getting it hooked up was
 RH> pretty cheap. Beats using propane tanks too, hands down.
 RH> Great-grandma's spare stove was ...coal-fired.  Ugh.

I'd like a gas stove but this place is total electric. Maybe the next
place we move to will have one. Nice thing about them is your heat is on
or off instantly; you don't wait as long for the coil/burner to heat the
pot and it cools off quicker when the heat source is turned off.

-> RH> I pick up pieces to read it, so that I can see the print with my
-> RH> glasses off. The remaining paper is cat bait.

-> We don't have the cat; the one we had last, didn't bother with the
-> paper.

 RH> Poor kitty - didn't know what she was missing. If you can't pest the
 RH> humans you can't have any fun.

She was my lap kitty tho, enough of a nusiance to work around at times.

-> -> RH> Pretty much. I'm a lot number even than usual. Just try doing
-> RH> stairs like that. Better yet, don't.

-> -> Time for a rice bag or two?

-> RH> One yes, but heat makes MS worse.

-> Double whammy; you can't even take full advantage of your own rice bags.

 RH> I can use one on my shoulders, but wouldn't dare go further down.

OK, I get the picture.

-> -> it with chips, baby carrots & dip and ice cream & cookies.

-> RH> Ice cream. Cookies. Sounds good to me!

-> It was, didn't disappear like the pound cake but still was well
-> received.

 RH> It'll do. Man does not live by pound cake alone, but by every
 RH> cheesecake that proceeds from the ovens of God.(LOL)

Reminds me of my freshman year of college, one of my friends got a
package from his mom. It had some books he'd requested, with some
cookies and a note--"Man does not live by food for thought alone; he
needs peanut butter cookies".
