======================
Hi Ruth,

-> My parents have had cats since I was a kid (dogs as well). The man that
-> gave us our first ones told us that kittens only came in pairs; we used
-> that line on our parents a couple of other times to get 2 kittens.

 RH> Kittens most often come in pairs, but sometimes they come in triplets.

Only times we had more than two was when a cat had kittens. Had that
happen I think 4 times but the one time, the mom cat was only 9 months
old and the babies only lived a couple of days. Before we could get her
to the vet, she went out again and more kittens were on the way,
successfully.

 RH> I did get a single one once, but he was the runt.

Most of the time we had only one cat at a time. Had 2 dogs several
times, plus the cat(s), a canary and a (small) fish tank. Dogs and cats
were indoor/outdoor ones.

-> RH> On the other hand, an afternoon nap won't hurt anything; sleep
 RH> helps neurological stuff heal faster.

-> I think he dozes some but he's trying to be somewhat active. As I was
-> working on supper, he thought about setting the table, then realised
-> that he couldn't. Nice thought tho, same as cleaning the wok after
-> supper. He usually does it for me but I did it tonight.

 RH> Tell him not to worry about it. There are some things that will be
 RH> off his menu for a while. Nap taking however is definitely NOT among
 RH> them.

No, I'm waking him up now so he will be alert for supper to be served
shortly. Spinach/strawberry salad, turkey tenderloin and quinia. Got the
spinach at the farmer's market earlier today.

-> RH> Never had those. I do like tarantulas as long as they're in cages
 RH> and
-> RH> not crawling out of my bananas. Dad talked about finding them on
 RH> the
-> RH> New Jersey docks when he worked there for a while in college.
 RH> ->
-> Coming in on banana shipments?

 RH> Exactly. The bananas came just like they were picked off the tree,
 RH> and the spiders would hitch a ride. Wharf cats thought they made good
 RH> toys.

Free fun!

-> RH> Government cheese was the good stuff for a long time. I guess
 RH> nothing lasts.

-> Sometimes they gave away the good stuff but we never got any. Just that
-> one give away but that was enough. We ate it as fast as we could, then
-> used the food stamps to buy the good stuff.

 RH> Namely anything but the pasteurized processed cheese "food".

For sure! We belonged to a natural foods co-op; I got a lot of my cheese
from them. That's where I learned to appreciate Jarlesberg Swiss cheese.

-> RH> Same here more or less, although I can manage to rewire a lamp and
 RH> the like.

-> I probably could, but never had the opportunity to try.

 RH> It's not difficult. You need some pliers and a screwdriver sometimes,
 RH> but if I can manage you could.

Most likely, I've got my own tool box full of goodies.

-> -> Yes, and you can crank them down so that there's a bare minimum of a
-> -> flame & put a heat diffuser under the pot to create a super low
-> -> temperature. Been there, done that.

-> RH> These days I usually use the crock pot for that, but yep. Chem lab
->  RH> training.

-> I still like stove top instead of the crock pot for some things.
-> Marinara sauce, for one.

 RH> Quite probably correct. Baked beans however work well in a crock.

It's about the only way I do beans now.

-> -> I work off a net book, sitting with my feet up, on our love seat.
 RH> Much
-> -> better for the neck & shoulders.

-> RH> Quite likely, but I need the full-sized keyboard.

-> I don't mind the small one; I've got smaller hands so the reach on a
-> full size keyboard is harder.

 RH> I've got bigger ones with longer fingers; I have a hard time with
 RH> laptops.

-> RH> hollow leg. He scarfed it on the way out the door. The cheesecake
 RH> is of course also long gone.

-> I'm not surprised. I would have stretched it out so as to keep the carb
-> count reasonable but it would probably be gone by now.

 RH> Oddly the chunk I left in the office fridge was still there this
 RH> afternoon when I dropped something off. That didn't last long once I
 RH> put it out in the open on a conference table.(LOL)

Probably forgotten in the busy-ness of the start of the week. If nobody
had anything that needed to be put into the fridge, it could have been
easily forgotten. But, it's history now.

Catch you later,
