Oddly enough, that's one of the least worrisome of the
effects, at least on a per-incidence basis. Cardiac issues
including heart attack, anemia, weight gain, weight loss,
tendon rupture, muscle degeneration, joint degeneration,
bone degeneration, immunosuppression, and even cancer are
things to be more concerned about.

Oh, addiction, too: I know people who await their semimonthly
shot with pathetic eagerness.

It worked out: it was especially good to see Anne in
reasonably mobile condition. My phone was eventually
found, and Lilli's stupid iPhone, which is one of the
least technologically impressive innovations I've seen
in a while, has begun to work again, and its battery
will even hold a charge for several hours.

She's retired. Used to be assistant to the editor of one
of the Tribune newspapers. Now spending her children's
inheritance.

Quick Garlic Butter
cat: condiment
yield: 1 batch

1 Tb butter, for the garlic
4 ts (or more, to 7 ts) minced garlic
4 Tb butter, at room temperature
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 Tb butter. Add the
garlic and cook, stirring frequently, just until it has
softened but not browned, about 5 min. Remove the garlic
from the heat; set aside to cool to room temperature.

In a small bowl using a wooden spoon or a standing mixer
with a paddle attachment, combine the garlic with the
rest of the ingredients until thoroughly incorporated.

For a special party snack, melt this butter and toss with
10 oz potato chips (preferably thick-cut). Bake in a 350F
oven until fragrant and golden, 4 - 7 min. (Chips may be
tossed with butter several hours ahead of time, then
heated at the last minute.) This clever tip is from
Party Food by Lorna Wing (SOMA, 1998).
