==================
Now that I'm officially diabetic, what makes more sense than to
give a list of the sweets I've eaten recently?

Arizona Snack Company golden caramel corn nuggets - surprisingly
good, moderately sweet but not cloying, moderately salty but not
making me fear form my electrolyte balance. They tasted like Corn
Kix with maple glaze on them. Interestingly, the ingredients list
had natural butter flavor and natural maple flavor, but the
allergen list didn't mention milk products. Texture was an
irresistible almost too crisp on the outside and almost too
melting on the inside. They staled quickly, with the outside
becoming sticky and the inside gummy, but they were still quite
edible in the somewhat stale condition (they didn't last long
enough to go really stale). These were provided to me by US Air
for being such a good customer.

Craisins Sweetened Dried Cranberries, 100 Calorie Pack -
"the sweetest way to eat a cranberry[tm]," says the label.
Quite pleasant, actually, like solid cranberry juice cocktail
but with fiber and a good percentage of real fruit. Here's
the rub. Out of 28 grams of stuff, the nutrition facts admit
to 18 grams of sugar; but "ingredients: cranberries, sugar."
Okay, so let's say the product is 50% cranberries and 50%
sugar, the best case scenario. That means that 14 grams of
cranberries will have to contain 4 grams of natural sugar,
that's 28%. Undried cranberries have 4% sugar (FDA). So this
means that the cranberries have to be dried by 6/7, which is
quite doubtful. I call "fast and furious" on the labeling.
Not a biggie. These were also courtesy of US Air, perhaps
for being a bad customer - they were served two months after
their retirement date.

Emerald cocoa roast almonds - a nice idea, the almonds coated
in a mildly chocolaty, slightly sweet, just discernibly salty
coating. Unfortunately some of the nuts were pre-rancidized;
otherwise I'd have enjoyed these more than the other Emerald
products (except for the plain nuts, which if fresh are better
than any jazzed-up kind).

Tootsie Roll fruit chews (in order of preference):

vanilla - why this flavor is included in a fruit assortment I
don't know, unless Tootsie is taking a page out of the Jelly
Belly playbook with "recipes" for combining candies. Anyhow,
a quite nice artificial I think vanilla flavor, surprisingly
not too sweet (less so than ordinary rolls)

orange - the rest of these were comparable in taste to
Starburst chews; the orange was the most convincingly
like the real fruit, at least in Juliusesque form

cherry - sort of almondy, as fake cherry tends to be -
not bad, and the creaminess offset the solventy fakiness
that I find so objectionable in cherry hard candies

lime - also not bad but too sour and without enough
fruit flavor

lemon - way out of balance, too sour and too sweet at the
same time (more sour than sweet); and anyhow, having become
acquainted with real lemons, the candy version, even with
real lemon oil and real citric acid, doesn't appeal so
much as it used to when I was a child.

Chocolove XOXOX strong dark chocolate - I'm rather surprised
these guys are still in business. When this product came out,
it was waxy and weird in texture, sort of like a chocolate
version of the model food they put out in front of sushi
restaurants, and I didn't give the company much hope. They've
worked that out, though, and this is now a fairly dense bar
with nice not-too-fruity flavor, a tad sweet (it still tasted
sweet after I consumed the remains of the helvasi below),
just slightly grainy, which persisted through the melt, mocha
finish, no vanilla presence, which is odd as almost all
chocolate, including this one, lists vanilla in the ingredients.

Koska tahin helvasi in the convenient 100 g container, preserved
with a thin layer of melted and cooled rock sugar on top. After
you dug down below this, you came to some very good fresh halvah.
This is the same stuff my colleagues were buying cut from the
block in front of the candy store, for more money, and having
been open to the air. Granted, there was a brisk turnover, but
even Turks can't eat that much halvah. I have a soft spot for
Joyva (made in Brooklyn), but this was nice, moist stuff.
