I love old-fashion doughnuts. Plain, sugared w/granulated sugar, glazed, glazed
w/chocolate (my favourite), etc. However, last trip to the croaker I had gained
six pounds where my goal was to lose 10#. Whoops. So, the morning doughnuts are
out. Damn. And I'm back to the regimen I used to slip the 100+ pounds. Nice
breakfast, bowl of soup or a lone sarnie for lunch then a bowl of soup and a
sammich for supper (and supper no later than three hours before hitting the
shucks for the night).

Except for the fact that America's day dedicated to culinary excess is next
Thursday ... I think I may be on the right track.  Bv)=  My pants are already
somewhat looser than before. Which is a good thing. I gave all my "fat" clothes
away on Freecycle.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Drop Doughnuts *
 Categories: Breads, Snacks
      Yield: 30 doughnuts

      4 lg Eggs
      3 c  All-purpose flour
      1 c  Buttermilk
  1 1/2 ts Baking powder
      2 ts Vanilla extract
      1 ts Grated lemon or orange peel;
           - opt
           Honey
           Cinnamon
           Cooking oil to deep fry
 
  Beat eggs; stir in buttermilk, vanilla extract, and
  grated peel. Combine flour and baking powder. Stir
  into the egg mixture. Cover with a cloth. Let stand at
  room temperature for 1 hour. In a deep fryer, heat oil
  to 375øF/190øC.

  Drop batter by the tablespoon. Cook 4 minutes, or until
  doughnuts are golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

  Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with cinnamon.

  Serve hot.
   
  ABOUT 30 DOUGHNUTS
   
  Note: Batter keeps well in the refrigerator. Bring to
  room temperature before cooking.

  * These are really doughnut balls. Or maybe doughnut
  "holes". Real doughnuts are round with an open centre.
