Happy Thanksgiving.

World Market roasted and salted pepitas - God, these are salty.
Yet despite the preservative they are just a little stale as
commercial pepitas tend to be (with a little bitterness and a
little varnishy taste). Made my last Glenlivet taste extra
fruity and sweet, though.

Sadness - I guess I haven't flown US Air enough lately - I'm out
of Glenlivet, which is arguably the best thing about that airline.
UA has Courvoisier. US has Glenlivet.

I found myself at a hotel in the middle of nowhere (thank you,
Priceline and/or Hotwire) with no restaurant on site or within
walking distance. There was a gas station, though, nearby, with
an On the Run, a phenomenon with which I was previously unfamiliar.
I had three actually palatable if junky meals there for about $10
total, so life wasn't all bad.

Oscar Mayer all-beef jumbo frank - your standard dog, wholesome, a
bit too salty, too fine ground for my taste, as most dogs are. There
was a chili dispenser, which was welcome, especially as the chili
was somewhat spicy and quite good, almost your regular eating chili;
I think this was an extra 10 or 25c, honor system, well worth the
price. For my second meal I had the 3-cheese smoky, because I like
smokies, and there wasn't a no-cheese version available, and what
harm can some cheese do? Lots: I way underestimated the amount of
cheese and thus didn't use enough pills, and too bad for me. Again,
the chili covered a multitude of sins, to the degree that my third
meal was bun (you get your bun and its cardboard box first, put a
sausage on [if you so desire], and then squirt on chili or Velveetoid
to your heart's content for your extra coin) and chili only.

The chili had distinct flavors of red chile powder, cumin, onion,
and beef fat; a good percentage of fine-ground meat; no beans; a
bit of a mild kick. Quite acceptable.

Schlitz OML (Original Malt Liquor), a couple bucks for 24 oz - a
sweetish brew with not much character and a strong taste of alcohol.
It's pretty clear that the target market is drunks and the very
young, but it wasn't horrid, and it went okay with chili and Cheetos.

Cheetos (crunchy), $3 for about 8 oz - I've always liked the Cheez
Doodles type snack, despite the inevitable aftereffects. My favorite
version was made by Jack's Snacks many years ago - no resemblance or
relation to Bachman Jax, which are okay. This time my guilty pleasure
was provided by Chester the Cheeto Cheetah. Half a pound is a lot of
Cheetos.

A blue raspberry Icee for a buck provided endless blue entertainment
and was not unpalatable, though it tasted neither blue nor raspberry
- sort of your chilly sweet slurry with no redeeming social value
except it cut the salt of the Cheetos.
