I felt a bit out of my league myself, and that seldom
happens in any context.

It was pretty subdued, which is fine.

There's no glassware worthy of real wine in the house,
and the ambience, shall we say, lacks. The best glass
is a United Airlines one, and the best spot to sit is
in my room (formerly my mother's room), and rough red
is about the appropriate level of potation for this.
The rough stuff was Pillar Box, so it wasn't all bad.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: Fried Green Tomatoes 1
 Categories: Side dish
      Yield: 3 servings

    3/4 c  Self-rising flour
    1/4 c  Cornmeal
    1/4 ts Salt
    1/4 ts Pepper
    3/4 c  Milk
           Green tomatoes, 3 to 4
           -- cut in 1/4" slices
           Vegetable oil

  Recipe by: Fannie Flagg's Original Whistle Stop Cafe Cookbook
  Combine first 5 ingredients; mix until smooth. Add additional milk to
  thin, if necessary; batter should resemble pancake batter. Working in
  batches, dip tomato slices into batter, allowing excess batter to drip
  back into bowl. Fry in 2 inches hot oil (375 F) in a large heavy
  skillet until browned, turning once carefully with tongs. Transfer to
  a colander to drain. YIELD: 3 to 4 servings

  NOTES : To keep the cooked tomatoes from getting soggy before they are
         served, stand them up like wheels in the serving dish instead
         of stacking them.
