===================
Hi Ruth,

-> Also things that that are taken care of last longer than things that get
-> minimal attention. That means cleaning filters and other maintainence as

 RH> That's always true, but in some cases even that doesn't help. I've
 RH> gotten lemons before.

Can't help you there. But we've lived in rental housing most of our
married life and had to deal with appliances in "as is" condition. Most
of the time they've been pretty good, no problems, but we do try to take
care of them. In the Army housing, work orders were on a priority basis.
A fridge going out was a Priority 1; it was replaced or repaired ASAP.
OTOH, a dishwasher was a Priority 3. It was repaired or replaced within
a certain time frame (I forget the exact timing) but you had to live
with it broken for a while. We had occaiasional problems; partly due to
the fact we lived in some places for extended times. Never had a
dishwasher go bad but had 2 fridges in Savannah go down on us.

-> dishwasher to my mom. We also showed her how to load it efficiently
-> (despite what the manual said) and got her some stainless steel
-> measuring cups/spoons that can go in it safely. She'd been putting her
-> aluminum ones in and they were getting rather corroded.

 RH> I wash mine by hand. There's a stainless steel set here, but I almost
 RH> always use the 30 year-old Tupperware instead.

I like the Tupperware in that they have the odd size measures nobody
else does. Somehow in HI I lost my 1/2 cup measure; I had a back up set
in another color that I broke out and used but I did like the off white
color better. I think it may still be around. (G) We bought a set of
collapsable cups when we moved up here but I gave them up in favor of
the stainless. The collapsable ones were unsteady, especially in the
larger sizes, when full. I could bump it and dump the contents way too
easy, can't do that with the stainless.

-> RH> Sounds like somebody knew something you didn't. Which doesn't

-> Seems that's the way it went. I'm reading ahead for my next class
now. -> Lots of reading & writing for it but no exams.

 -> RH> That's a help.  Been there.  Did that.

Hard to believe but that class starts next week. Hopefully the weather
will be better; had sleet & freezing rain over a bit of snow yesterday
into today. Good weather for staying in.

-> I'll have to post mine--got it from my MIL in 1992 and it's been made at
-> least once a year since.

 RH> Sounds like a plan.

OK, I'll dig it out and send it.

-> RH> Go Huskies! I went to the Storrs campus, and don't know New Haven

-> His mom issort of hoping he will go in state instead to save tuition
-> costs but I guess he's got some financial aid coming. Also got word that
-> another nephew just got engaged, with wedding planned for October.

 RH> My oldest cousin's son just got engaged too. Dang I feel old.

It doesn't seem like that long ago we got the word that he was born. I
was outside hanging laundry at the house we rented in Copperas Cove, TX
when the call came. We lived there for about 15 months before getting
housing on post at Fort Hood.

-> Still, a narrow heel--the kind I never was fond of.

 RH> Me neither. I had some a long time ago, just for giggles, but didn't
 RH> keep them long.

I never had them as I was (and am) prone to easily twisting my ankles.

-> Pressed isn't bad; it cooks more evenly. Went back to Sarah's cottage &
-> found an adjustable cheese planer (Onieda brand), brand new, dealer's
-> demo for $2.00, a pack of 2 (one large, one small) coil covers for about
-> 50 cents and several pieces of fabric (including an all over cat print)
-> for $1.00 each.

 RH> All over cat print is a good thing. I'm working on a throw at the
 RH> moment myself. The top is all but done. I'm appliqueing the Dallas
 RH> Cowboys logo onto both sides with the colors reversed. A friend is a
 RH> diehard fan. The whole thing is that really soft micro-terry stuff
 RH> with fleece appliques.

I took apart an old quilt (The 3rd one I made) to re do. I was given the
fabric (red & blue velour pieces) the first time we lived in NC, pieced
them in NY, bought the backing & batting in CA & assembled it in TX. I'm
going to try to stretch it into a queen size, using a throw I made from
some of the extra pieces.

-> RH> Odds and ends I've got. More odd than end in some cases.
 RH> ->
-> We've got some odds, some ends and a right fair amount of meats.

 RH> Then there's the strange stuff.... I've always got strange stuff.

Depends on who's definition of strange. In this echo, strange food is
normal. I'd say the contents of my freezer are very international. (G)
