I have just spent a week in Brisbane.  The city is now looking much
better after cleaning up the flasher parts of the city.  A lot of the
rubbish has been temporarily dumped out of sight in the poorer parts,
to be removed later.  A Navy mine sweeper is checking the harbour
bottom for sunk yachts, speedboats, floating wharves and restaurants.
The railways are mostly operating again, and the coal miners are
beseeching the government to allow them to pump out the contaminated
water into nearby creeks and rivers so they can start producing before
the customers' reserve stockpiles are used up.  I think that to shut
down and re-start a smelter is very time-consuming and expensive.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Fish With Sweet-and-Sour Sauce
 Categories: Chinese, Fish
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      8    Small fish [or maybe more
           -if using really small fish
           -like smelt. JM]
    1/2 c  Soy sauce
    1/2 T  Wine
      1    Star aniseed
      6 sl Ginger
           Deep-frying oil
      2 T  Oil
    1/2 c  Wedged leek
      2 T  Sugar
      2 T  Vinegar
      1 T  Soy sauce
      2 t  Cornstarch
    1/2 c  Water
 
  Clean and scale fish and marinate in soy sauce, wine, star aniseed and
  ginger for 30 minutes. Remove and wipe well. Heat oil to 330 degrees
  F and deep fry until crisp. Heat oil and saute leek over high heat
  until tender. Add sugar, vinegar and soy sauce and bring to a boil.
  Mix cornstarch with water and add to thicken, stirring constantly.
  Arrange fried fish on serving platter, pour sauce over fish and serve
  hot.
