I have told this story before here - but, I think before you joined the 
echo. I was at a Mickey D's for a quick order of empty, semi-tasty 
calories (Double quarter cheese and large fries) and had given the 
cashier-bot a $10 bill when the display on her terminal quit. She was 
freaking lost and had this stricken look on her face. So, I helped her 
out ... 

How much was the food?

$3.68 (this was some years in the rear view mirror Bv)= )

What did I give you to pay?

$10.

OK. Count up to the next major coin.

OK, she says counting out 7c.

Now what does it take to get to an even dollar amount.

She adds 25c to the pile.

About this time a manager-bot is standing behind her watching ...

Now, say I, we're up to $4. What gets us to the next size bill?

She adds a dollar to the pile.

OK, now what does it take to get us back to $10.

And she adds a fin to the change. Then sees the manager-bot out of the 
corner of her eye and gets this stricken look on her face.

The manager-bot says "Give the man his change." 

"But, it is right?" she asks.

"Exactly right"" he says.

"How did you know how to do that?" she asks, looking at me.

Then the manager-bot inserted his manger key into the terminal and reset 
things. And I'll bet her little lesson in economics flew right out her 
head. Bet, hell. I'll guarantee it did.  Bv)=

SD> These kids sure know how to play video games and post on Facebook,

That's truly scary.

SD> What's frightening to me is that I'm old enough to be their

I once knew a guy who was functionally illiterate but who could do 
complex maths in his head. But, he was a sports fanatic and gambler. For 
him knowing and understand maths was a survival mechanism.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Gambler's Chile Verde *
 Categories: Pork, Stews, Chilies, Vegetables
      Yield: 8 servings

      2 lb Pork tenderloin; in sm cubes
      1 c  Onion; medium dice
     14 oz Can chicken broth
     10 oz Green salsa; bought
     20 oz Canned whole green chilies; 
           - seeded, chopped
           Green Tabasco
           Salt

MMMMM------------------------SPICE MIX------------------------------
      3 ts Garlic; minced or mashed
      2 tb Minor's chicken base
      1 ts Celery salt
      1 tb Flour
      2 ts Oregano
      1 tb Cumin
      3 tb Jalape+o; diced
      1 tb Dried cilantro
           +=OR=+
      3 tb Fresh cilantro; fine chopped
      1 tb Green chile powder

  Brown pork and drain.

  Add onion & broth.

  Simmer 1 hour - stir often to avoid sticking.

  Add spice mix ingredients and 10 oz of green chile salsa.

  Simmer 1 hour.

  Add 20 oz. chopped green chilies.

  Salt to taste, and add dash of green Tabasco.
 
  Continue to simmer for another hour.
