You should have said that the Carolans was extra special and
that your premium rum was a house brand on sale! Or at least
not brought the subject up if you couldn't come up with a
creative and convincing lie, er, explanation.

Not cheap enough. I discover - from a friend newly at Tulane -
that you can buy the local (Sazerac made) equivalent of Everclear
for the same price volume to volume as regular booze. Depending
on the situation I can go for the most intoxicant for the price,
which surprisingly sometimes is beer. Over the decades EtOH costs
have sort of equalized, so cheap wine, cheap beer, and cheap
booze cost about the same ($.50 to $.75 per standardized drink),
with one or another periodically emerging as a front-runner.
Sometimes distilled liquor surges out in front, a big surprise,
as it costs more to produce. I of course tend to spend several
times that, as I care about the taste of my alcohol.

Makes sense.

I generally prefer saltwater fish, though the older I get the
less patience I have with fish that is anything less fresh than
caught the same day.

Almond float
cat: dessert, Chinese
servings: 16

6 c soy milk
3 envelopes Knox unflavored gelatin
1/2 c sugar or tt
1 Tb almond extract or tt
1 cn Mandarin oranges and/or
1 cn lychees

This is like the world's easiest dessert.

Bring 4 c soy milk to the boil. Sprinkle gelatin
over and beat gently until incorporated. Stir in
sugar. Remove from heat. Add remaining milk and
almond x. Cool completely and store in the fridge
or a cold room until set. Cut into rabbit shapes
and garnish with canned Mandarin orange segments
and/or lychees.
