====================================================================
Hi Hap,

-> hn> It was a pretty tough thing for
-> hn> the girls to do; lots of memories
-> hn> and tears as well. They brought a

-> I think the initial going thru is probably the hardest, as the memories
-> are the freshest. It sounds like a lot was accomplished tho.

 hn> I agree on it being the hardest emotionally.
 hn> There is still the furniture and household
 hn> goods to go through as well...and I imagine
 hn> that may create some difficulties as to who
 hn> gets what and how they'll get it where "they"
 hn> live. I know there are several large pieces of
 hn> furniture that more than one of the kids want.

That's going to be "interesting" to say the least. After she had her
first stroke, my grandmother sat down one night with her 3 daughters and
they worked out who would get what big things. My unmarried aunt bought
out the other 2 sister's shares of the house and some of the
furnishings. Mom got the granfather clock, the mahogany monster (a big!
desk), the dining room table & chairs and some other pieces. I don't
recall what my other aunt got; she passed away a bit over a year later.

-> hn> Amanda got some special memories
->  hn> from Mom's jewelry.

-> How many other grandchildren did your MIL have? I've already inherited a
-> piece my great (great?) grandfather made when he worked for Tiffany's of
-> request for some of Mom's Revere Ware pots/pans. I know 2 siblings own
-> their own sets of RW, not sure what the other 2 have. AFAIK, one may
-> just have a microwave; he's not a cook.

 hn> She had seven total and one great
 hn> grand. My guess is that the kids
 hn> who live furthest away will want to
 hn> auction off most of the Household
 hn> and split the money, but Brother
 hn> in law may want to keep a bunch of
 hn> the furniture as he has none of his
 hn> own. Negotiations will ensue I'm sure.

To be sure! One of my brothers in law (married to Steve's younger
sister) is executor of his dad's estate (mom had died some years before)
and is still dealing with it. With several siblings involved, it is not
an easy job. Steve's brother left everything to his wife but Steve and
his other brother have made a couple of specific requests which she is
honoring.

-> hn> put it on in the evening if I
->  hn> was not G-chatting with
-> hn> either Anne or Amanda...
-> hn> love that video chatting now!

-> We do Skype with Rachel and the kids--Sarah is a little ham! She stands
-> on Rachel's legs and leans over into the screen. We have to tell her to
-> back off so we can see more than the top of her head. (G) But, she knows
-> who Gamma and Gampa are.

 hn> We have Gmail accounts (great for when
 hn> you're on the road or want an email account
 hn> that does not take much room on the HD) and
 hn> it offers free video chatting as well...so we
 hn> use that, nothing to sign up for or anything.
 hn> I have to admit it's fun and nice to see Amanda
 hn> and talk to her as well!

We have Skype on all of our travel computers too. Made it nice in
November; we connected with Rachel while in NY so her Haffly side
grandparents, aunts and cousins could talk to her.

-> hn> often, but usually have them out
->  hn> on the counter.

-> I don't have the room to. Besides, we're still seeing ants on the
-> counter tops--not many but enough that I don't want to keep food out.

 hn> If we had ants I'd do the same!!
 hn> Happily we are not ant or roach
 hn> infected!

We don't have the roaches (thankfully) but the ants are a persistant
issue. They're even out in the cold weather! Sigh!

-> Not sure what we'll do for the next Thanksgiving; we were going to go to
-> Florida last year but ended up going to New York instead.

 hn> Yes, I remember. Not trips we want to
 hn> make, but ones we'd certainly not miss.

If at all possible, no. I know Anne is glad she made the trip, I suspect
even work-a-holic Amanda is too.

-> hn> Let me guess, AZ and Las Vegas??

-> Yes, going to hit several places in AZ. I'd like to get back to Sierra
-> Vista/Fort Huachuca to visit folks, see how the area has changed since
-> we were there in 2006. It would be nice to re-establish connections in
-> the area.

 hn> Looking for places to settle when you're
 hn> done with NC??

Possibly; steve will be abit over a year from finishing when we go out
in the fall.

-> hn> sides. I'm looking forward to some
->  hn> comfort food tonight.

-> Enjoy the time with Anne and Amanda. Are you gearing up for spring
-> training? How's the knee?

 hn> Knee is not good. Doc's can't seem to
 hn> find what the problem is..but admit that
 hn> it's there and significant. So I just deal
 hn> with it...makes sleeping difficult at times,
 hn> and walking is tougher most of the time.
 hn> and Stairs are tough All of the time.

No fun; my sympathies. I had to go to the podiatist for another issue on
Monday and asked about my left foot. He ran some X-rays, which didn't
show anything, but gave me a sample of a topical cream to try.

 hn> Still, baseball is coming and I'm excited!

And hopefully our respective teams will do better this year. (G)
