Hi Janis,

JK> In trying to catch up, I see I missed a message here a while back (g)

Not a problem; I've been busy enough myself that I didn't notice.

>> Could be.. or it could be HFCS.. seems everyone uses it these days,

 JK> > I really don't remember but I don't think it was HFCS. I'm not
JK> buying > things with that in it if I can avoid it.

JK> Definitely same here. While we still have to check labels constantly
JK> because so many do use it, it does seem that more and more products
 JK> are not using HFCS.

I know, and I appreciate it. Some are brands we never have bought, some
we had bought in times past but switched to avoid HFCS. As long as we
are here in NC, I'll go with the ones I've switched to (Lowe's and WFM).
When we move, I'll see what's available and make my selections
accordingly.

 JK> Spiedies:
>> some > day. Sort of an Italian dressing with rosemary taste if I
>> recall
>> > rightly?

>> Yes.. and more vinegar based than curry based.. here's the recipe from
>> Lukos: ===Chicken Spiedies===

JK> > Thanks; we've got both chicken breasts and some lamb chunks in the
JK> > freezer. Instead of the buns, flour tortillas might be good too.
 JK> Another

JK> I think Binghamton is stuck on Italian roll-types :) But I can see
JK> how flour tortillas would be good for a change of pace.

A change of pace, fewer carbs and usually easily found in whole wheat
version.

JK> > possibility is to make my own rolls. Use the dough feature on the
JK> bread > machine and then shape/rise/bake them.

JK> Yes, handy feature, I do that as well sometimes. Ron is thinking

I'm going to loan out my bread machine but might try it using the KA for
the mixing/kneading. I can always plan to do it when Steve is home to
help. (G)

JK> about getting me a Bosch mixer when our tax return comes in, but I'm
JK> still not sure I want it (g). My birthday was Feb. 1st so I'm taking
JK> my time about it.. I've read some more about the Viking, and the
JK> problem with that one is that it's gear driven .. something that
JK> bothers Ron, more than me but he's probably right (g). Anyway, If I do

We thought about the Viking and Bosch but KA was more in our price
range. Decided not to go for a lot of the attachments tho.

JK> that, it will be an interesting toy to play with once again. I figure
JK> I can always use the attachments I already have on the KA if I feel I
JK> need/want to use one. Then just when I think I've made up my mind
JK> about "the gift", I think about more computer toys Lol

And I think about sewing related things. Got a dressmaker form last
year; she needs to be set up yet but I'm trying to get a spot cleared up
for that.

JK> the > Binghamton area but living in Germany) mentioned them. I left
JK> the area > before they broke out of the immediate Binghamton area,
JK> same as I left > western NY before buffalo wings broke out of the
 JK> Anchor Bar.

 JK> I hadn't heard of them until we moved here :) :)

They took off in the late 70s; by then I was living in NC. My sister
went to Houghton College in that time frame and they were just breaking
out of the greater Buffalo area.

>> found the recipe in a Mideastern cookbook I have.. that is the same
>> one that had an original mideastern recipe for what is sold as
>> "rice-a-roni" (g). we love that one as well.

JK> This is the Lamb and Orzo Recipe:

 JK> === Yiouvestsi ===
JK> From Les Mallos' Complete MiddleEast Cookbook

Got it, thank you. (G)

JK> > I've got some summer salads that call for orzo; good eating when the
JK> > weather is hot. I'll have to dig them up and post them.

 JK> Should be good :)

They are, almost a a meal in one, depending on what you toss into it.

>> remember the brand name.. maybe "better-than-boullion"? something like
>> that.. is that the one you use? Sounds like it - It's good :) We're

JK> > I think so, without getting up to check. Just a spoon full (I don't
JK> > measure) in hot water makes a good quick fill in.

JK> Sure sounds like it.. sadly, I can't use that when my daughter and the
JK> grand-boys are here.. One of them, forget which one, has something in
JK> it that's not good for them.. hence my own seasoning mix for stock
JK> when they come over :) For Beef, I use this mix:

Good thing you can do a safe substitution.

 JK> ==Vegan Beef Bouillon==
JK> Makes about one cup good strong bouillion

 JK> 1 cup water
 JK> 1 Tablespoon garlic powder
 JK> 1 teaspoon salt
