I strongly suspect price was a big factor in the decision making. How
much house could they get for their money? At the time they bought it,
he was working too but they had several of his kids from his first wife
living with them. Now they're all gone but this house was probably a
good bit paid off and beat trying to find another one.

Quite so. NY State doesn't pay a whole lot; I think my sister is about
middle level in the system. She's holding her head above water but I
don't know how far above.

Including a kitchen? From all the places we've lived, I could fit
together bits and pieces of most to make a decent kitchen. Let's
see--the slide outs in the pantry and the space of the Berlin kitchen,
the storage of the one in AZ.....................

That was probably not a job you would want to repeat.

We ended up going out for supper tonight. Had to run over to Harris
Teeter for a few things, it was getting late & we'd been in the kitchen
all afternoon cooking for the Life Group--baked ziti & a trifle. I did
the first, Steve the 2nd. Ended up trying a new to us Italian place that
was pretty good--worth a trip back.  The chicken was cooked but will be
eaten next week.
